Direct answer

Meta Catalyst IQ's 12-point Naming Intelligence schema and SLC Framework — with real bad-vs-good examples and why bad naming costs ₹50K-₹2L/account/month.

TL;DR

Meta Catalyst IQ's 12-point Naming Intelligence schema and SLC Framework — with real bad-vs-good examples and why bad naming costs ₹50K-₹2L/account/month.

Ad-set naming looks trivial. A campaign is called "Campaign 2" and an ad-set is called "Delhi women broad" — nobody has ever been fired for that. And yet, on the 23+ Indian healthcare accounts running inside Meta Catalyst IQ, poor naming is directly responsible for ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000 of avoidable wastage per account per month. It hides audience overlap, it obscures budget conflicts, it makes creative-fatigue tracking impossible, and it stops any human reviewer from spotting the ad-set that has been dormant for three weeks in a wall of undifferentiated names. Catalyst IQ's Naming Intelligence module was built for exactly this problem — a 12-point schema and an underlying SLC Framework (Service / Location / Format / Content / Details) that surfaces conflicts before they cost money. This piece walks through the schema, shows bad-vs-good examples on real Indian healthcare accounts, and explains how to migrate an existing account without breaking your historical data. Not exciting work, but among the highest ROI cleanup any healthcare Meta advertiser can do in a single afternoon.

Meta Catalyst IQ SLC Framework — ad-level period-over-period across Service / Location / Format / Content / Details dimensions
Meta Catalyst IQ · SLC FrameworkEvery ad classified across Service / Location / Format / Content / Details. Current window vs previous — colour-coded delta on Spend, Results, CPL, CPM, CTR, Hook rate, Hold rate, Result rate.
Meta Catalyst IQ Naming Intelligence — detected naming schema with findability score, name conflicts, lead-source rollup by ad set name
Meta Catalyst IQ · Naming IntelligenceDetected schema (e.g. {service}_{type}). Findability % (35% = 65% of ad sets named inconsistently). 10 name conflicts surfaced for resolution. Lead-source rollup by ad set name shows which sources are converting.

Why naming looks trivial but costs lakhs

Meta Ads Manager sorts, filters and reports on strings. Every dashboard view, every automated rule, every export you or Meta's own automation runs is a string operation. When ad-set names have no discipline, five downstream effects follow.

You cannot filter by service without renaming. If you want to see all "dental aligner" spend across your account, but half the ad-sets say "aligners", a quarter say "Invisalign", and the rest say "clear braces", you cannot filter cleanly. Reporting becomes a manual exercise, mistakes compound, decisions get made on the wrong slice.

You cannot spot audience overlap by eye. Two ad-sets called "Delhi 25-40 women IVF" and "Delhi married women 28-45 fertility interest" look different in a name column. They are actually 73% overlapping in Meta's audience overlap tool — burning ₹15,000+/month of internal CPM inflation. Good naming would have made the overlap obvious at a glance.

You cannot audit creative rotation. If ad names carry no signal about which creative variant is inside, you cannot tell whether ad-set A has been rotating three creatives for 40 days or one creative for 40 days. Fatigue tracking becomes reactive instead of proactive.

You cannot merge, split or scale confidently. A budget shift decision requires you to know exactly what you are turning up. Bad names force account managers to open every ad-set to check, so shifts happen slower and often incorrectly.

You cannot hand the account over. When a client offboards or an agency changes, an account with disciplined naming is a functioning asset. An account with bad naming is a black box that takes six weeks to decode.

The five hidden costs of bad naming

On the accounts Catalyst has audited, the ₹50K-₹2L monthly wastage from naming breaks down into five buckets:

  1. Audience overlap ad-sets — 6-14% of spend on cluttered accounts.
  2. Duplicate creatives running in parallel — 3-8% of spend, undetected because names do not reveal duplication.
  3. Budget-shift errors — 2-5% of spend from turning up the wrong ad-set.
  4. Delayed fatigue detection — 4-9% of spend on Review-zone creatives kept live because nobody noticed.
  5. Reporting hours — 8-14 human hours/month across in-house team and agency, at ₹1,500-3,000/hour effective cost.

On a ₹5 lakh/month Meta account, this stack routinely totals ₹65,000-₹1,20,000 of monthly wastage that is 100% recoverable through a two-hour renaming exercise plus a monthly Naming Intelligence check.

The SLC Framework explained

Every ad-set name in the ICG standard is built from five elements. The name "SLC" comes from the shorthand for the first three (Service / Location / Content) that we originally rolled out — Format and Details were added in v2. Today all five are mandatory.

  • Service — what you are selling. Never abbreviated. "IVF-Standard", "IVF-Donor", "Dental-Aligners", "Dental-Primary", "Hair-Transplant-FUE", "Cardiac-Angioplasty". Not "IVF", not "Dental", not "Cardio".
  • Location — where you are targeting. City-level minimum. "Delhi-NCR", "Bangalore-South", "Mumbai-West", "Chennai", "Pan-India".
  • Format — creative container. "Video-30s", "Video-15s", "Carousel-3", "Carousel-5", "Static-Square", "Static-Story", "Reel-9x16".
  • Content — creative angle / hook. "Testimonial-Priya", "Cost-Anchor-99K", "Doctor-Face-Dr-Sharma", "Before-After-Photo", "FAQ-Success-Rate".
  • Details — targeting signal, audience type, funnel stage. "Cold-Lookalike-1pct", "Warm-Retarget-30d", "MoFu-InterestIVF", "BoFu-CartAbandon".

Assembled: IVF-Standard | Delhi-NCR | Video-30s | Testimonial-Priya | Cold-Lookalike-1pct. Pipe-delimited so filtering, sorting and regex extraction all work cleanly in Ads Manager, spreadsheets and Catalyst's parsers.

The 12-point naming schema

Catalyst's Naming Intelligence module validates every ad-set name against 12 rules on every daily sync. Any violation is flagged in the Naming Intelligence column of the Master Dashboard:

Meta Catalyst IQ Master Dashboard — cross-client portfolio rollup: 23 clients, ₹9.14Cr spend, 5,784 leads, blended CPL ₹1,581, CAC ₹86,253
Meta Catalyst IQ · Master DashboardCross-client view: 23 clients × ₹9.14Cr Meta spend × 5,784 leads × 106 converted = ₹1,581 blended CPL, ₹86,253 blended CAC, 52.7% link rate. By-industry rollup: IVF (11 clients, ₹2.6Cr spend, ₹632 CPL), Dermatology, Hair Transplant, Skin, etc.
  1. Contains all five SLC elements, pipe-delimited.
  2. Service field matches the account's approved service taxonomy (no ad-hoc synonyms).
  3. Location field is city-level or narrower, never country-level except for Pan-India cold campaigns.
  4. Format field references an approved creative-container tag.
  5. Content field is unique to the underlying creative asset (no two creatives share a Content tag).
  6. Details field indicates funnel stage (Cold / Warm / MoFu / BoFu) at minimum.
  7. Character length ≤ 90 characters (Meta's effective display limit).
  8. No spaces around pipes (readability + regex reliability).
  9. No emoji, no special characters outside dash and pipe.
  10. No date-stamps in the name (Meta records creation date natively; date-stamps age poorly).
  11. No campaign-manager initials or agency codes (belong in campaign name, not ad-set).
  12. Campaign name and ad-set name are internally consistent (a "Winter-Fertility" campaign does not contain a "Dental-Cleaning" ad-set).

Any ad-set with two or more violations gets a red flag in the Naming Intelligence report and blocks scaling recommendations until fixed.

Bad vs good — five before-after examples

Real names from real Indian healthcare accounts we onboarded, redacted to remove client identifiers.

Example 1 — IVF clinic, Delhi

Bad: Campaign 2 - AS - Delhi women broad

Good: IVF-Standard | Delhi-NCR | Video-30s | Testimonial-Anonymous | Cold-Lookalike-1pct

What broke: nobody knew which service, which creative, which funnel stage. Filtering by IVF-Standard vs IVF-Donor was impossible. Renaming took 40 minutes and made a ₹12K/month audience overlap visible on day one.

Example 2 — Dental chain, Mumbai

Bad: MUM - aligners 25-45 - Aug

Good: Dental-Aligners | Mumbai-Central | Carousel-5 | Cost-Anchor-1.2L | MoFu-InterestOrthodontic

What broke: "Aug" date-stamp meant every month a new near-duplicate ad-set was created, all running in parallel. Nine ad-sets doing the same job. Naming Intelligence flagged 6 as duplicates on day one.

Example 3 — Multi-city dermatology group

Bad: Test 3 - laser hair - female

Good: Derm-Laser-Hair-Removal | Bangalore-South | Reel-9x16 | Before-After-Photo | Warm-Retarget-30d

What broke: "Test 3" was live for eight months at ₹1,200/day. Nobody knew it was a test.

Example 4 — Hair transplant clinic, Delhi

Bad: Delhi - Cold - Dr. Sharma video

Good: Hair-Transplant-FUE | Delhi-NCR | Video-45s | Doctor-Face-Dr-Sharma | Cold-Interest-HairLoss

What broke: two different ad-sets both said "Dr. Sharma video" but used different creatives. Fatigue tracking failed because CTR data was combined across two different assets.

Example 5 — Cardiac hospital, Bangalore

Bad: angioplasty campaign - retarget

Good: Cardiac-Angioplasty | Bangalore-Pan | Static-Square | FAQ-Recovery-Time | BoFu-VisitedPricing

What broke: "retarget" said nothing about which retargeting audience. Turned out to be visitors from a completely different service (oncology) that had been mis-tagged in the pixel.

Naming Intelligence conflict flagging

Beyond the 12-point schema, Naming Intelligence surfaces three types of conflict specifically:

Duplicate Service conflicts — two ad-sets in the same campaign with the same Service and Location fields but different creative-container Formats. Usually intentional (A/B testing) but often forgotten and left running long after the test concluded.

Overlap Location conflicts — ad-sets whose Location field claims to be different (Delhi-Central vs Delhi-NCR) but whose targeting radius actually overlaps by more than 20%. The audience overlap wastage discussed in the Money Wastage audit.

Funnel-stage conflicts — Cold and BoFu ad-sets with overlapping audience definitions, typically caused by a Lookalike being seeded from a BoFu remarketing pool. Silently cannibalises retargeting spend.

Each conflict is flagged with a suggested action and an estimated ₹-cost. This is the layer that quantifies the ₹50K-₹2L/account/month claim.

Campaign vs ad-set vs ad-level naming

The SLC 5-element schema applies at the ad-set level. Campaign names and ad names use lighter conventions:

Campaign name: {Objective}_{Service-Category}_{Funnel}_{Quarter} — for example LeadGen_IVF_Cold_Q3-2026. Objective aligns with Meta's campaign objective, Service-Category is broader than ad-set Service (IVF, Dental, Derm), Funnel is Cold/Warm/BoFu, Quarter enables year-over-year comparison.

Ad name: {Creative-ID}_{Iteration}_{Language} — for example Testimonial-Priya_v3_HindiEng. Creative-ID matches the Content field of the ad-set name, Iteration tracks version, Language notes copy language.

The three levels never contradict each other. If the campaign says IVF_Cold, no ad-set inside it can be tagged Dental-Aligners or Warm-Retarget-30d. Rule 12 of the 12-point schema enforces this consistency.

Rollout — migrating without breaking historical data

The single biggest fear founders have when we recommend renaming is losing historical data. It's a valid worry — but Meta's Ads Manager reports on the ad-set ID, not the name. Renaming an existing ad-set keeps all historical data intact; only the display label changes.

Our four-step migration:

  1. Export baseline — pull a CSV of the current 30-day performance report and archive it. Any future comparison uses this baseline.
  2. Rename in place — do not delete-and-recreate ad-sets. Use Meta's bulk-edit feature to rename in-line. Historical data preserved.
  3. Validate against 12-point schema — run Naming Intelligence on day-1 post-rename to confirm zero violations.
  4. Update UTM parameters — the utm_campaign field mirrors your new ad-set name. Land the update in the same 48-hour window to keep CRM attribution clean.

Total effort for a 40-ad-set healthcare account: 2-4 hours the first time. Ongoing enforcement is 15 minutes per week if new ad-sets follow the schema at creation time. A cheaper hour of your account manager's time you will not find.

FAQ

Do I have to use pipes as delimiters?

Pipes are the ICG default because they parse cleanly in every downstream tool (Ads Manager filter, Excel, Google Sheets, Catalyst's regex extractor). Underscores or dashes also work if you commit to them across the entire account. Whatever you pick, never mix.

What about very long service names like "Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility"?

Use the approved short form from your service taxonomy — "IVF-REI" is fine as long as it is documented once and used consistently. The service taxonomy lives in the account handover doc.

How does naming affect CBO vs ABO scaling decisions?

Clean naming lets you see, at a glance, which ad-sets inside a Campaign Budget Optimisation (CBO) campaign are drinking budget vs starving. Without clean names, CBO becomes a black box. See our companion piece on CBO vs ABO scaling.

Do I need to rename ads too, or only ad-sets?

Both, but ad-set naming is the higher-ROI fix. Do ad-sets first, ads in a second pass. Ad names are lower stakes because they are usually created once per creative and not iterated in-place.

Can Naming Intelligence enforce naming at creation time?

Yes — Catalyst exposes a browser-extension checker for account managers that validates ad-set names against the 12-point schema before you hit Publish in Ads Manager. Available to all Catalyst-managed accounts.

What about naming for Instagram-only or Reels-only ad-sets?

Same schema, no exceptions. Format field carries the container (Reel-9x16, Story-9x16); Placement is not part of the name because Meta records placement natively.

Does bad naming affect algorithmic delivery, or just human reporting?

Just reporting and decision-making. Meta's algorithm does not read names. But your CPL still rises 15-30% when human decisions are worse — so the algorithmic outcome degrades even though the algorithm itself is neutral.

One growth engine.

Performance marketers, analysts, AI engineers, content strategists, and operations specialists — all healthcare-only. Headquartered in Gurgaon since 2018.
