How competitive is healthcare marketing in Denver?

Short answer

More than its size suggests. In our 2026 benchmark of 477 Denver practices, all 9 specialties we measured sit above the national median for Google reviews, something only Scottsdale also manages among 20 metros. Denver ranks 4th of 20 on review depth (index 1.22), yet its click costs are mid-table.

  • Dentistry is the closest to normal (1.1×), and only 12.5% of Denver dental practices list weekend hours.
  • Planning estimates: $10.80 per general-dentistry click (9th of 20); Denver IVF clicks are the cheapest of 16 metros.

“They were able to get all my ideas and work with me over a period of three to four months and create this amazing website. It's super customized, very modern, and it incorporates all the elements that I had wanted — the patient portal, nice pictures, a very interactive website, patient reviews. I would highly recommend their company to anyone who wants to make an excellent website.”

Every Denver specialty is above the national median

In most cities, some specialty is thin on Google, so a new practice can reach the local median quickly. Even Houston, the second-deepest market of 20, has physical therapy and chiropractic results at or below the national median. Denver has no such corner in our data. The chart shows each Denver specialty's median Google review count as a multiple of that specialty's national median. Every bar crosses the line.

Hair Restoration 2.52×
Dermatology 1.8×
Chiropractic 1.69×
IV Therapy & Wellness 1.58×
Physical Therapy 1.22×
Med Spa 1.12×
Medical Weight Loss 1.12×
Dental 1.1×
Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery 1.09×

Denver median reviews ÷ national median, by specialty; the dark line marks 1.0 (the national median). n = 477 Denver practices, September 2026. Hair restoration (n = 11) and med spa (n = 20) are small groups. Our arithmetic from the US Healthcare Google Benchmarks 2026.

Only one other metro of the 20 we measured, Scottsdale, clears the national median in all nine. That matters more than Denver's overall rank of 4th. New York and Houston are deeper on average, but each has specialties at or below the national median. In Denver, whatever your specialty, you start behind a field that has already built its reviews.

The deep end

Dermatology, chiropractic and IV therapy: each 3rd of 20 metros

Three Denver specialties rank 3rd of 20 metros on median reviews. The median Denver dermatology practice has 224.5 Google reviews, against 125 nationally, and 30.6% have 500 or more. Chiropractors sit at a median of 211, and only 12.7% have fewer than 50 reviews, one of the lowest shares in the country. IV therapy and wellness clinics have a Denver median of 82 against 52 nationally.

Put that in time. A dermatology practice that adds 10 reviews a month would need about 13 months to reach the national median, but about 23 months to reach Denver's. That simple arithmetic ignores competitors' own new reviews.

Dentistry

Dentistry is the most "normal" part of Denver, and the most searched

Dentistry is a large share of Denver searches for marketing help, and it is where Denver looks most like the rest of the country. The median Denver dental practice has 351.5 reviews, 1.1 times the national 319.5, which puts Denver 11th of 20. Still, 37.5% of Denver dental practices have 500 or more reviews, so the top of the local pack is crowded.

The clearer opening is access. Only 12.5% of Denver dental practices list a weekend day on Google, against 25.5% nationally, the 3rd-lowest share of 20 metros. Physical therapy shows the same pattern: 8.9% of Denver clinics list weekend hours. A practice that opens on Saturdays, and says so on its Google profile, stands apart.

Paid search

Mid-priced clicks, and the cheapest IVF clicks we measured

General dentistry$10.809 of 20
Orthodontics$19.209 of 20
Cosmetic dentistry$34.509 of 20
Medical dermatology$8.209 of 19
Cosmetic dermatology$22.109 of 19
IVF$10.8016 of 16

Paid search tells a calmer story than reviews. Denver sits in the middle of our dental and dermatology tables, well below San Francisco or New York. IVF is the outlier: our fertility benchmark puts a Denver IVF click at about $10.80 and a new patient consultation at about $310, the lowest of the 16 metros it covers (the highest consultation estimate is $980). Colorado has an infertility insurance law that includes IVF, according to RESOLVE's state-by-state list, and the report links coverage to lower acquisition costs.

What this means for your practice

What this means for your practice

  1. Assume you start behind on reviews, whatever your specialty. Set a monthly review target and measure it against the Denver median, not the national one.
  2. Use paid search as the bridge. Denver clicks are mid-priced, so ads can keep you visible while your review count grows.
  3. In dentistry and physical therapy, compete on access. Few Denver practices list weekend hours; if you offer them, show them on Google.
  4. Fertility clinics: budget for volume, not just price. Lower click costs in a coverage state can mean more inquiries to answer quickly.
  5. Win a neighborhood before the metro. Map results are local; a tight radius is easier to lead than all of Denver.

Method

How we know: source, sample, date and limits

Google benchmark: public Google Business Profile data for 477 Denver practices in 9 specialties, found through Google searches centered on Denver and collected in September 2026, part of the 20-metro sample behind the State of US Healthcare Marketing 2026. Review-depth index: each specialty's Denver median divided by its national median; the index is the median of those ratios. The "times national" figures and the months-to-median arithmetic are our own calculations from those medians. Click costs: planning estimates from our dental, dermatology and IVF benchmark reports, January to August 2026.

  • Small samples: the Denver hair restoration group is 11 clinics and the med spa group 20. Treat those two rows as directional.
  • Review counts measure visibility, not quality of care.
  • Colorado's infertility coverage rule is taken from RESOLVE's state-by-state list (checked October 2026); coverage depends on the plan type.
  • Cost figures are planning estimates, not quotes or guarantees.

FAQ

Common questions

Is Denver a competitive market for healthcare marketing?

On Google reviews, yes. In our 2026 study of 477 Denver practices, all 9 specialties sit above the national median review count and Denver ranks 4th of 20 US metros on review depth. Paid search is less crowded: our planning estimate for a general-dentistry click is $10.80, 9th of 20 metros.

How many Google reviews do Denver dentists have?

The median Denver dental practice in our 2026 benchmark has 351.5 Google reviews, against 319.5 nationally, and 37.5% have 500 or more. The sample is 120 Denver dental practices found through Google searches in September 2026.

Which Denver specialties are hardest to rank in on Google Maps?

Relative to national norms, dermatology (median 224.5 reviews vs 125), chiropractic (211 vs 125) and IV therapy (82 vs 52). Each ranks 3rd among the 20 metros. Hair restoration looks deeper still, but the Denver group is only 11 clinics.

How much do Google Ads cost for Denver practices?

Our 2026 planning estimates for Denver are about $10.80 per click for general dentistry, $19.20 for orthodontics, $34.50 for cosmetic dentistry, $8.20 for medical dermatology, $22.10 for cosmetic dermatology and $10.80 for IVF. They are planning ranges, not quotes.

Why are IVF clicks cheaper in Denver?

Our fertility benchmark ties lower click costs to insurance coverage. Colorado has a law that covers IVF, with up to three completed egg retrievals for eligible plans according to RESOLVE's state list, which can mean fewer patients shop purely on price. Denver has the lowest IVF click and consultation estimates of the 16 metros in that report.
