What is a typical cost per lead for fertility clinic marketing?
In our 2026 planning estimates, the more useful number is cost per new patient consultation: $240 to $520 in states that mandate IVF coverage and $580 to $1,240 in states that do not. IVF clicks follow the same split, at $9 to $17 versus $18 to $34. Miami tops our 16-metro table at $980 per consultation; Denver is lowest at $310.
- Cost per new consultation: $240–$520 with a coverage mandate, $580–$1,240 without.
- IVF cost per click: $9–$17 (mandate) vs $18–$34 (no mandate).
- Track cost per consultation, not cost per form fill: fertility enquiries vary widely in readiness.
- Showing which employer fertility benefits you accept lifted conversion 28–46% in tech-heavy metros.

“They were able to get all my ideas and work with me over a period of three to four months and create this amazing website. It's super customized, very modern, and it incorporates all the elements that I had wanted — the patient portal, nice pictures, a very interactive website, patient reviews. I would highly recommend their company to anyone who wants to make an excellent website.”
Cost per lead is the wrong yardstick for fertility
A fertility "lead" can be a couple ready to start a cycle next month or someone reading about egg freezing for later. Both fill in the same form. A cost-per-lead target rewards campaigns that collect the second kind cheaply, which is why our US IVF & Fertility Marketing Benchmark 2026 measures cost per new patient consultation instead. It is closer to revenue and much harder to game.
The single biggest driver of that cost is not the clinic's ads but the state it practices in. Where state law mandates fertility coverage, patients mostly search for a provider. Where it does not, they compare package prices, success rates and financing before they book, and every step of that comparison costs the clinic money.
Cost per new consultation, 16 metros
Planning estimates, January to August 2026. Coverage grouping as classified in the benchmark report.
Every no-mandate metro costs more per consultation than every full-mandate metro. Miami at $980 costs more than three times Denver at $310. Texas is a useful case: Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston all land between $720 and $920, so a multi-site Texas group should plan on the high side of the national range.
Three levers the benchmark points to
1. Show the benefits you accept
Many large employers now offer fertility benefits through third-party benefit administrators. In metros with many tech and corporate employers, clinics that build a landing page for each accepted benefit and show acceptance on their Google profile, ads and homepage converted 28% to 46% better than clinics that only said "in network". Elsewhere the lift was smaller, 12% to 22%, but still positive.
2. Build pathways, not one generic funnel
Patients arrive with different questions: donor pathways, egg freezing, LGBTQ+ family building, second opinions after failed cycles. In high-LGBTQ+ metros, clinics with pathway-specific pages drew 12% to 22% of total fertility enquiries from LGBTQ+ family-building, against 4% to 8% with generic messaging.
3. Make price discussable
In no-mandate markets, 55% to 68% of cash-pay patients chose multi-cycle packages. Patients are comparing packages either way. A clinic that explains package structure and financing on its own pages takes part in that comparison instead of leaving it to other sites.
What this means for your clinic
- Replace cost per lead with cost per booked and attended consultation in every report.
- Plan from your coverage group. Use the metro table in the IVF benchmark as your starting range.
- Answer enquiries within minutes. In high-cost markets, a missed call is a lost $700 to $1,000 consultation.
- Publish benefit and package information on dedicated pages, not buried in a PDF.
- Keep tracking HIPAA-safe. Fertility searches are sensitive; review pixels and tags before scaling ads.

How we know: source, sample, date and limits
Source: US IVF & Fertility Marketing Benchmark 2026 (Ichelon Consulting US). Inputs: first-party marketing data from 14 fertility clinics in our US client base, public search-behavior signals and third-party Google Ads cost-per-click data, January to August 2026. Coverage: 16 metros, grouped by whether their state mandates fertility coverage, as classified in the report.
- Planning estimates, not guarantees. Fourteen client clinics is a small, non-random base.
- "Partial" metros (Washington DC, Philadelphia, Seattle) straddle coverage rules or rely on specific employer plans.
- State coverage rules change; check current law for your state before planning around them.

Common questions
What is the average cost per lead for IVF marketing?
We benchmark cost per new patient consultation rather than raw leads, because fertility enquiries range from early research to ready-to-book. Our 2026 planning range is $240 to $520 per consultation in coverage-mandate states and $580 to $1,240 in states without a mandate.
How much does an IVF Google Ads click cost?
In our 2026 benchmark, $9 to $17 per click in metros where state law mandates fertility coverage and $18 to $34 where it does not. Miami ($28.40) and Austin ($26.30) were the most expensive of 16 metros; Denver ($10.80) the cheapest.
How should an IVF clinic calculate cost per booked consultation?
Divide marketing spend for a period by new-patient consultations booked from that spend, by channel, and track consultations attended separately. Count each patient once even if they enquire through several channels, and exclude existing patients.
Why do fertility leads cost more in Texas and Florida?
In the benchmark, patients in non-mandate states compare packages, prices and financing before booking, which lengthens the decision and intensifies bidding on price-related searches. Clinics in mandate states compete mainly on provider choice.
Are these fertility marketing costs guaranteed?
No. They are planning estimates from 14 client fertility clinics, public search signals and third-party cost-per-click data, January to August 2026. Your own costs depend on metro, services, pricing transparency and how quickly enquiries are answered.
