What dental patients value most: the top 5, from 3,000 Google reviews
When patients review a dental practice, what do they actually write about? We classified about 3,000 Google reviews from US dental practices by theme. One theme dominates everything else, and it isn't price, technology or results.
- Staff and bedside manner: 61% of theme mentions, 97.5% positive.
- Then results (9%), pain & comfort (8%), wait time & scheduling (5%) and before / after outcome (4%).
- Pain and comfort is 96.8% positive: gentle care is noticed and praised.
- Wait time and scheduling is the top-5 theme with the most complaints (17.1% negative).
- Every practice welcome — retainers from $499/mo, Goals-Driven engagements, Performance-Linked Payout Models available.

“They were able to get all my ideas and work with me over a period of three to four months and create this amazing website. It's super customized, very modern, and it incorporates all the elements that I had wanted — the patient portal, nice pictures, a very interactive website, patient reviews. I would highly recommend their company to anyone who wants to make an excellent website.”
The top 5 things dental patients write about
Short answer: the team. Staff and bedside manner is mentioned more than all the other themes combined.
Share of 2,992 theme mentions in Google reviews from a 120-practice subsample. A review can mention more than one theme.
Staff and bedside manner: the visit is judged on people
Short answer: 61% of what patients write is about the people who treated them, and it's overwhelmingly positive.
Dental visits make many people anxious. The reviews reflect that: patients often name the people who treated them and describe how they were made to feel. For marketing, that's a clear direction: show the real team, their credentials and their manner, on the website and the Google profile.
The rest of the top 5
- Results (9% of mentions). 91.5% positive, 7.8% negative.
- Pain & comfort (8% of mentions). 96.8% positive, 3.2% negative.
- Wait time & scheduling (5% of mentions). 81% positive, 17.1% negative.
- Before / after outcome (4% of mentions). 95.2% positive, 4% negative.
Results and outcomes are mostly praised. Pain and comfort is almost always positive, which makes "we'll keep you comfortable" worth saying plainly on treatment pages. Wait time and scheduling is where the top 5 starts to show friction; see price, booking and wait times.
Putting what patients value at the front
- Lead with your team: real photos, credentials and a line on each clinician's approach.
- Address anxiety directly: one plain paragraph per treatment on comfort and what to expect.
- Keep treatment conversations patient-first: the biggest mismatch in dental reviews is upselling.
- Ask for reviews after great visits: your happiest patients write about your people, which is what new patients read.
Method: about 3,000 Google reviews from a 120-practice subsample of our 2,318-practice study, classified with Google Gemini (a second independent pass used as validation). Directional. See the methodology & data.

Common questions
What do patients value most in a dentist?
In about 3,000 Google reviews of US dental practices, the most-mentioned theme was the staff and how patients were treated (61% of theme mentions, 97.5% positive), well ahead of every other theme.
Do dental patients care about pain?
Yes. Pain and comfort is one of the top themes (8% of mentions) and is 96.8% positive, so patients notice and reward gentle care.
How was this measured?
Up to 50 recent Google reviews each from a 120-practice subsample of our 2,318-practice study were classified by theme and sentiment with a language model. Counts are directional.
Is this a survey of how patients choose a dentist?
No. It shows what patients write about after a visit, which reflects what they notice and value. It is not a survey of how they chose.
