Direct answer

The 5-frame IVF carousel recipe, dynamic vs static carousels, compliance frames for NMC and PC-PNDT, plus ICG portfolio CPL benchmarks by frame count.

TL;DR

The 5-frame IVF carousel recipe, dynamic vs static carousels, compliance frames for NMC and PC-PNDT, plus ICG portfolio CPL benchmarks by frame count.

Carousel is the most underrated Meta format for IVF clinics in India. Every clinic wants to run video because that is what the LinkedIn feed says works. Meanwhile, the carousel format quietly delivers the lowest CPL in seven of the eleven IVF accounts on Meta Catalyst IQ. The reason is simple: a couple researching IVF wants to compare, and carousel is the only Meta format built for comparison. In this piece I will lay out the exact five-frame recipe our team ships, when to pick dynamic over static carousels, what the compliance frames must say to survive NMC and PC-PNDT review, and the CPL benchmarks you should hold your creative team to.

Meta has spent three years pushing video and Reels, and every ad blog now sounds like a Reels evangelist convention. The reality on IVF accounts is different. Carousel earns its swipe rate — 6.5 to 11 percent average across the ICG portfolio — because the buyer wants to compare programme options, price tiers, doctor profiles, or success stories before they raise their hand. Video answers one question in 30 seconds. Carousel answers five in the same scroll. When a couple is weighing three clinics, the one that pre-answers their comparison inside the ad wins the click.

On the diagnostic side, carousels give Meta Catalyst IQ a per-frame CTR breakdown. That is a signal you cannot get from video. We can see which frame the audience actually clicked, retire the losing frames, and rebuild the carousel around the winners. Over 45 days, this feedback loop drops IVF CPL by 22 to 34 percent versus a carousel that never gets frame-level analysis.

The version that runs across most IVF accounts in the portfolio uses five frames. Frame one is a hook question — "Third failed cycle. What now?" Frame two is credibility — years of practice, embryology lab certifications, cycle count over the last twelve months. Frame three is the differentiator — the specific protocol or specialisation the clinic runs. Frame four is a soft proof frame — general portfolio outcome, or a consented family image with a "results vary" disclaimer. Frame five is the CTA — WhatsApp counselling or a free consultation, never a hard promise.

Frames three and four are where 70 percent of the CTR variance lives. If frame three lists features (IVF, ICSI, IUI, embryo freezing) it flops. If frame three names the fear the clinic addresses (repeat failure, low AMH, male factor), it earns the click. Ship the second version.

Across the ICG IVF portfolio, single-image ads carry the highest CPM (₹280 to ₹420) and the highest CPL (₹1,100 to ₹1,600). Video carries the mid-range CPM (₹180 to ₹280) and the mid-range CPL (₹520 to ₹780 in metros). Carousel carries the lowest CPM (₹120 to ₹190) and often the lowest CPL when the audience is comparison-shopping (₹480 to ₹720 in metros). The gap widens as the buyer moves from awareness to consideration. Awareness audiences (broad, 25 to 45, interest-based) respond best to video. Retargeting audiences (page visitors, video 50 percent viewers, engaged shoppers) respond best to carousel. This is why the portfolio structure runs video at the top of funnel and carousel at the middle.

Success story carousels and compliance

Success story carousels convert well but they carry the highest compliance risk. Every frame that references a patient outcome must carry three things: written consent from the couple, a visible "results vary" disclaimer at 14 point or larger, and zero references to specific medications, protocols, or cycle numbers. NMC Ethics Code 2026 treats any implied outcome guarantee as a violation. A carousel that says "45-year-old mother, twins after two failed cycles" reads well but is a violation unless the disclaimer frame follows immediately.

The ICG internal review pattern is to place the disclaimer as a floating text plate on every proof frame, not just the last one. This satisfies both NMC and ASCI 2022 guidelines and it survives Meta's manual review queue.

Price and EMI frames — what you can and cannot say

Price transparency wins in Indian IVF advertising. Couples are cost-anxious and clinic price opacity is a well-documented conversion blocker. That said, price frames on Meta carry three constraints. First, no percentage-off language on a base price that was never charged — this is an ASCI violation and Meta's policy team has started catching it. Third, EMI frames must show the effective interest rate, not just the monthly instalment.

The frames that ship in our accounts show a range ("IVF programme from ₹1.4 lakh, EMI from ₹9,800/mo, all-inclusive quote after counselling"). The word "all-inclusive" is the trust anchor. It also survives compliance review.

Portfolio CPL for IVF carousel: ₹480 to ₹720 in metros (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad), ₹580 to ₹880 in tier two (Pune, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Kochi, Coimbatore, Nagpur), ₹720 to ₹1,050 in tier three. Video CPL in the same accounts: ₹520 to ₹780 metros, ₹680 to ₹1,050 tier two, ₹860 to ₹1,300 tier three. Portfolio blended IVF CPL is ₹632, and carousel is often the format keeping the metro numbers where they are. CPQL — cost per qualified lead — is roughly parity between the two formats, which tells us that both formats are equally good at qualifying, and the difference is in raw volume.

Dynamic vs static carousels

Dynamic carousels — where Meta pulls product-catalogue-style frames from a feed — work well for aesthetic and dermatology, less well for IVF. IVF programmes do not translate cleanly into a product catalogue because the "product" is a consultation, not a SKU. The rare exception is clinics running four or more distinct protocols (standard IVF, ICSI, PGT-A, egg freezing) that can be treated as feed items with distinct starting prices. In those cases dynamic carousels reduce creative production overhead by 40 to 60 percent and let Meta learn which protocol resonates with which audience segment.

Static carousels — where you build each frame by hand — are where 90 percent of the IVF portfolio runs. The reason is control. IVF messaging has to be exact. A "learn more" caption on a dynamic frame does not carry the same conversion weight as a hand-built CTA that says "book a free counselling call".

Testing frame order

Frame order matters more than most teams act on. The default assumption is that frame one carries the highest CTR. In IVF carousels, frame two and frame four often outperform frame one on click-through — because the hook frame earns the swipe but not the click. The click lands on the frame that answers the swiper's next question. On Meta Catalyst IQ, we run frame-order tests on a 4-2-1 cadence: four hook orders, two credibility orders, one CTA position, and then reassemble the winning combination. Over 21 days, this pulls carousel CPL down by another 14 to 22 percent on top of the base optimisation.

The offer frame is where most IVF carousels underperform. Clinics either over-discount (which triggers ASCI and Meta review), under-discount (which fails to move a fence-sitter), or build the offer around the wrong thing (a free consultation when the buyer wants a bundled programme quote). The three offer frames that ship well across our IVF accounts: a "free counselling call" frame paired with clear-language on what the call covers, a "programme quote after diagnostic" frame that promises pricing after a standard test panel, and a "no-cost second opinion" frame that targets couples who have already had a failed cycle elsewhere. Each frame carries the disclaimer plate below the offer line — never above, because eye-tracking on Reels and Feed shows the disclaimer is more likely to be read when it follows the offer.

What does not work in IVF carousel offer frames: countdown timers, "50 percent off" language on programme fees that were never charged, and "limited slots" urgency framing. All three are either ASCI risks or trust-breakers that leak conversion.

The primary text (the caption above the carousel) should sit at 90 to 140 characters. Longer than 160 and the "see more" truncation cuts into the message. Each frame headline should be 25 to 40 characters — long enough to name the thing, short enough to read in one glance. Each frame description should be 18 to 28 characters. On Reels, all three shrink further because the on-screen space is smaller. Every carousel that ships across the ICG portfolio has both a Feed variant and a Reels-optimised variant with tighter copy.

FAQ

How many frames should an IVF carousel have?

Five frames is the ICG portfolio sweet spot. Three frames under-delivers on comparison. Seven frames sees swipe-through drop past frame five.

Can we use before-and-after imagery in an IVF carousel?

IVF does not lend itself to before-and-after in the way dermatology does. The equivalent is a "before treatment / after successful cycle" narrative, but it must carry written consent, a "results vary" disclaimer, and no reference to specific protocols or medications.

Should we run price frames or hide the price?

Show a "starting from" range with an all-inclusive footnote. Price transparency lifts CTR by 18 to 26 percent in our portfolio, and it filters out low-intent leads.

Is dynamic carousel worth setting up for IVF?

Only if you run four or more distinct protocols as separate programmes with distinct starting prices. Otherwise stick with hand-built static carousels.

How often should we refresh IVF carousels?

Full refresh every 30 to 45 days. Individual frame swaps every 10 to 14 days based on per-frame CTR data from Meta Catalyst IQ.

Do PC-PNDT rules apply to carousel frames the same way as video?

Yes — every frame is treated as an ad unit. Any language or imagery suggesting sex determination or sex selection is a violation on any frame. Run a keyword check on every frame before publication.

Which CTA works best on the last frame?

WhatsApp free counselling outperforms website landing by 12 to 22 percent CTR in the ICG portfolio. The exception is Bangalore and Chennai where website landing wins by a small margin.
