Neurology Marketing · India · 2026 Playbook

Neurology Marketing
Agency in India.

By Rohit Gupta, Co-Founder — Business & Growth, Ichelon Consulting Group. Reviewed by Raman Soni, Head of Performance Marketing. Updated July 2026.

Neurology marketing in India differs from generic healthcare marketing on three dimensions: (1) neurological conditions vary dramatically in digital discovery behaviour — stroke patients arrive via emergency with zero marketing contact; epilepsy patients research for months; migraine patients often try self-management for years before seeking specialist care; (2) the neurologist personal brand is unusually important relative to other specialties; (3) compliance complexity is high — several neurological conditions carry stigma sensitivity and DPDP Act sensitivity for patient data.

Why neurology marketing is different

Condition-level marketing,
not specialty-level.

Neurology as a specialty keyword ("neurologist near me") generates modest search volume compared to general medicine or dermatology. The high-volume queries in neurology are condition-specific: "epilepsy treatment India," "stroke rehabilitation hospital," "migraine specialist," "Parkinson's treatment."

This means neurology marketing is fundamentally about condition-level content clusters rather than a broad specialty page. A neurologist who optimises their GBP and website for "neurologist near me" captures a fraction of the available demand. A neurologist who builds condition-specific pages (epilepsy management, Parkinson's care, headache clinic, stroke rehabilitation) captures the majority of high-intent condition queries.

ICG's neurology content architecture is built around 8–12 condition clusters per neurologist, each with its own landing page, keyword cluster, and patient educational content.

The personal brand premium in neurology

Neurological diseases are among the conditions where patients and families do the most physician-level research before booking a consultation. A family dealing with a child's new epilepsy diagnosis, or a spouse managing a Parkinson's patient, will read the neurologist's publications, check their training (DM Neurology, fellowship at NIMHANS or PGI or an international centre), and look for evidence of sub-specialty expertise before picking up the phone.

This makes the neurologist's personal digital brand — LinkedIn publications, institutional affiliations, named expertise in specific conditions — a clinical necessity, not a vanity exercise. ICG's neurology engagement includes explicit personal brand development for the lead neurologist(s) alongside the practice/hospital digital infrastructure.

The stigma sensitivity layer

Several neurological conditions carry significant social stigma in India — epilepsy most significantly, but also Parkinson's, dementia, and some movement disorders. Marketing content for these conditions must:

  • Use person-first language ("person with epilepsy," not "epileptic")
  • Avoid content that implies shame or social limitation ("living with epilepsy doesn't have to hold you back" is borderline stigmatising)
  • Never use imagery that presents neurological episodes as frightening or pitying

DPDP Act sensitivity is also elevated: a patient who searches for "epilepsy specialist" and then is retargeted with epilepsy content on their social feed has been identified as a potential epilepsy patient by the retargeting system. This is sensitive health data retargeting under DPDP. ICG uses anonymised audience targeting for neurological condition campaigns rather than condition-specific retargeting.

The neurology patient decision journey

Three archetypes.
Emergency, chronic, and headache.

Archetype 01 · Stroke / acute neurological emergency

0–4 hour journey · decision made in minutes

Who they are: Family of a patient presenting with acute neurological symptoms (facial drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty, sudden severe headache). Medical emergency. Deciding from a phone in an ambulance or emergency room.

Search behaviour: "stroke hospital near me," "neurology emergency [city]," "NIHSS certified stroke centre." Decision made in minutes, not hours.

Trust triggers: Proximity, visible stroke centre certification in GBP attributes, phone number prominently available, high Google rating (>4.5★ at 100+ reviews — rapid trust assessment).

ICG's playbook: GBP health score optimised for emergency local pack visibility. Emergency landing page with sub-2s mobile LCP. Stroke centre certification referenced in GBP description. Dedicated Google Ads campaign for stroke/neurology emergency queries.

Archetype 02 · Chronic condition patient

60–180 day journey · research-intensive

Who they are: Patient or family managing epilepsy, Parkinson's, MS, migraine, or dementia. Has often been managing the condition with a GP or general practitioner for months before seeking specialist care. Research-intensive.

Search behaviour: Condition research first ("epilepsy treatment options India," "Parkinson's specialist Delhi"). Then sub-specialty research ("DBS surgery for Parkinson's," "epilepsy drug resistance treatment"). Then provider research ("best neurologist for epilepsy in [city]," "[doctor name] neurologist"). Timeline: 1–6 months.

Trust triggers: Sub-specialty expertise visible (epilepsy specialist vs general neurologist), publication or research history (indexed on PubMed or institutional website), patient reviews that specifically mention the condition being treated, DBS centre certification for Parkinson's.

ICG's playbook: Condition-specific content cluster per neurological condition (8–12 conditions). Each condition page: what is [condition] in India, how is it diagnosed, treatment options (NMC-compliant — no outcome promises), what to expect at a specialist consultation, why specialist care differs from GP management. Doctor profile with sub-specialty expertise prominently listed.

Archetype 03 · Migraine / headache patient

14–60 day journey · ready to book quickly

Who they are: 25–45 years, urban, working professional. Has been managing migraine with OTC medication or GP prescriptions for 1–5 years. Seeking specialist management for frequent or disabling attacks.

Search behaviour: "migraine specialist," "migraine treatment clinic near me," "chronic migraine specialist [city]." Shorter journey than chronic neurological conditions — migraine patients are often ready to book quickly once they decide to seek specialist care.

Trust triggers: Dedicated migraine/headache clinic positioning (not just "neurology clinic that also treats migraines"), review content mentioning migraine specifically, consultation availability within 1–2 weeks.

ICG's playbook: Dedicated migraine clinic positioning in GBP secondary categories and services list. Migraine-specific content (migraine triggers, preventive vs acute treatment, Botox for migraine, CGRP inhibitors). Fast appointment availability as a positioning statement (NMC-compliant: "consultations typically available within [X] working days" — factual, not a guarantee).

Compliance framework · hospital

Compliance is where most agencies fail.

Hospital advertising sits at the intersection of NMC (per specialist), NABH (institutional), and IRDAI (insurance claims). Multi-specialty hospitals need per-department compliance workflow.

Primary law
NABH standards + NMC Section 6 (per empanelled specialist)

No comparative "better outcomes than" claims without published outcome data. Insurance-empanelment claims must match live TPA lists.

Penalty for violation
Enforcement bite

NABH accreditation suspension + insurance-empanelment revocation

ICG approach
Compliance-first workflow

Every ad + landing page + email routed through a compliance checkpoint before publishing. Zero enforcement actions across 150+ healthcare clients since 2018.

Frameworks ICG operates under

NMC Ethics Code 2026 · DPDP Act 2023 · ART (Regulation) Act 2021 · NABH 6th Edition · Dental Council of India · Schedule J (drug advertising) · UCPMP 2024 · ASCI Healthcare Guidelines

Compliance interpretations current as of September 2026. Enforcement bulletins tracked weekly by ICG's compliance research desk. See our editorial standards for how we source and update these.

How ICG runs neurology marketing

Four tiers.
Condition clusters + personal brand + referral network.

Tier 01 · Condition content architecture

8–12 condition pages per neurologist

Each 1,500–2,500 words. Condition → sub-condition → treatment → what to expect at consultation. Each page: FAQPage schema, Person schema linking back to neurologist profile, BreadcrumbList. AIO-optimised (direct answer in paragraph 1 for the condition query). This is the highest-ROI content investment for neurology — condition queries drive 60–75% of neurology organic search traffic.

Tier 02 · Neurologist personal brand

LinkedIn authority + Person schema + sub-specialty positioning

LinkedIn authority content (condition-specific clinical perspectives, case approach articles — anonymised), Instagram educational content for conditions with high patient community engagement (epilepsy, migraine, MS), Person schema on the neurologist's website profile page with NMC registration number, DM Neurology credentials, fellowship, and any sub-specialty certifications.

Tier 03 · Paid acquisition

Condition-clustered Google Ads + DPDP-safe Meta

Google Ads campaigns by condition cluster (not specialty). Migraine campaign: "migraine specialist," "chronic headache treatment," "migraine prevention." Parkinson's campaign: "Parkinson's specialist," "tremor treatment," "DBS surgery." Epilepsy: "epilepsy treatment," "seizure specialist." Each condition has a dedicated landing page. DPDP-compliant audience targeting on Meta.

Tier 04 · Referral network

20–40 highest-volume referrers · monthly WhatsApp bulletin

Neurology is heavily referral-dependent — GPs, internal medicine physicians, psychiatrists, and paediatricians refer regularly to neurologists. ICG builds referring physician WhatsApp outreach for the 20–40 highest-volume referrers in the neurologist's catchment. Monthly neurological case review bulletin (1-page, WhatsApp-delivered) keeps the referring physician network engaged.

CPQL benchmarks · ICG vs market

38–58% lower CPQL
in 90 days. Across every specialty.

Most neurology marketing agency india pitches sell on CPL. ICG sells on CPQL — Cost Per Qualified Lead — the cost of a lead that actually shows up for a consultation. The difference is often 3–4×. Here is what our 150+ healthcare clients actually pay.

Specialty Market avg CPQL ICG avg CPQL ICG reduction
IVF & Fertility₹2,400₹1,180−51%
Aesthetic Dermatology₹1,950₹1,020−48%
Plastic Surgery₹3,600₹2,050−43%
Hair Transplant₹4,300₹2,280−47%
Ophthalmology (LASIK / cataract)₹1,700₹720−58%
Mental Health (psychiatry / therapy)₹2,200₹1,310−40%
Dental (chains)₹980₹540−45%

90-day averages from ICG's live portfolio across Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, and tier-2 cities. Adjust for city: metro CPQLs run 20–35% higher than tier-2 across all specialties.

Case study snapshots

Anonymised engagement outcomes
from ICG neurology portfolio.

DM Neurologist · Tier-2 city · solo practice

Situation: Senior neurologist (DM Neurology, NIMHANS) returning from public sector to private practice in a tier-2 city. No digital presence. Strong clinical reputation but known only to physician referrers.

Diagnosis: zero GBP, zero website, no condition content.

Intervention: 12-condition content cluster, GBP created and verified, LinkedIn programme, referring physician WhatsApp outreach to 28 GPs and internists.

Result: Top-3 local pack for "neurologist [city]" at 3 months. 45 new patient consultations in month 4 (from zero prior digital-driven patients). (ICG internal data, 2026.)

Paediatric neurology department · 180-bed multi-specialty hospital

Situation: Paediatric neurology department with sub-specialty expertise in childhood epilepsy managed by a senior consultant. Invisible online despite a 12-year clinical track record. Parents searching "child neurologist" in the hospital's city were finding competitors first.

Diagnosis: no condition-specific content, department GBP unoptimised.

Intervention: childhood epilepsy content cluster (8 pages), paediatric neurology GBP secondary category added, Person schema on paediatric neurologist profile, review generation SOP at follow-up appointments.

Result: "paediatric neurologist [city]" — from page 3 to top-3 local pack in 6 months. Parent referrals from online discovery: +42% at 9 months. (ICG internal data, 2026.)

Frequently asked

About neurology marketing
agencies in India.

Condition-specific content (SEO-driven) is the highest-volume channel for most neurological conditions. Google Ads on condition-specific queries (migraine, Parkinson's, epilepsy) for immediate capture. GBP optimisation for emergency neurological queries and general "neurologist near me" visibility. Referral physician outreach for complex/surgical cases. Instagram for conditions with strong patient communities (MS, migraine, epilepsy).

Focus on candidacy and process, not outcomes. "DBS surgery is recommended for appropriate Parkinson's candidates when medication-related fluctuations significantly affect quality of life. A multi-disciplinary assessment determines candidacy — this page explains what that assessment involves." This is NMC-compliant (process description, candidacy criteria, no outcome promise) and addresses the patient's primary search intent.

Condition-specific campaigns: ₹600–₹1,800 for migraine/headache (high volume, shorter journey). ₹6,000–₹18,000 for DBS surgery (very high LTV justifies higher CPQL). General neurology OPD: ₹600–₹1,400. The CPQL range is wide because neurological conditions range from short-treatment (migraine management) to multi-year care relationships (Parkinson's) to high-value surgical interventions (DBS, epilepsy surgery).

Person-first language throughout ("person with epilepsy," not "epileptic"). No imagery presenting seizures as frightening or the patient as pitying. Content focus on management, quality of life, and medical advances rather than limitations. ICG's epilepsy content explicitly avoids any copy that could reinforce stigma while providing genuinely helpful information on treatment options, driving regulations (DPDP-compliant — general information, not patient-specific), and what to expect at a specialist consultation.

Yes. Retargeting users who visited an "epilepsy specialist" page with epilepsy-specific ad content constitutes processing of inferred sensitive health data under DPDP Act 2023. ICG uses anonymised audience targeting ("visitors to neurology section") and avoids condition-specific audience labelling or ad copy that reveals inferred health status to the user.

More important in neurology than most other specialties. Patients and families researching complex neurological conditions will search the specific neurologist's name, read their publications, and check their sub-specialty focus before deciding. ICG builds the neurologist's personal digital brand (LinkedIn, website doctor profile with Person schema, sub-specialty content bylines) in parallel with the practice/hospital digital infrastructure.
