IVF content pillar-spoke architecture for Indian clinics — the 6-pillar / 84-spoke model
Why IVF demands pillar-spoke
Three structural features of IVF make a flat blog architecture inadequate:
- Long research arc — 90 to 180 days from first symptom search to first consultation. A patient doesn’t convert on the first piece they read.
- High intent diversity — informational (“causes of secondary infertility”), comparative (“ICSI vs IVF”), procedural (“embryo transfer day 5”), commercial (“IVF cost Hyderabad”), and brand (“___ clinic reviews”).
- Sensitive topical authority — Google’s YMYL category weight is heavy. A site with 4 IVF posts does not look authoritative; a site with a 6-pillar / 84-spoke architecture does.
The 6 pillars
Six pillars cover the entire IVF intent surface for Indian patients. Each pillar is a long-form page (2,200-3,000 words), the canonical anchor for the topical cluster.
| # | Pillar | Intent stage | Target spokes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Understanding infertility — causes & diagnosis | Awareness | 14 |
| 2 | IVF treatment journey end-to-end | Education | 16 |
| 3 | Choosing a clinic & doctor | Comparison | 12 |
| 4 | Advanced procedures & lab techniques | Deep evaluation | 16 |
| 5 | Costs, financing & insurance | Commercial | 14 |
| 6 | Outcomes, recovery & emotional support | Reassurance | 12 |
The 84-spoke map — sample
Each pillar fans into 10-18 spokes. A spoke is a 900-1,400 word page targeting a long-tail or mid-tail query. Sample spokes for each pillar:
Pillar 1 — Understanding infertility
- Causes of primary vs secondary infertility
- AMH levels and what they mean for IVF planning
- Male factor infertility — semen analysis and DFI
- Endometriosis and IVF outcomes
- PCOS-driven infertility — stim protocol differences
- When to escalate from IUI to IVF
Pillar 2 — Treatment journey
- What happens in an IVF cycle — week by week
- Stim drugs explained for first-timers
- Egg retrieval day — what to expect
- Embryo culture day 3 vs day 5
- Fresh vs frozen embryo transfer
- Two-week wait — what is normal
Pillar 4 — Advanced procedures
- PGT-A — who needs it
- PGT-M for known genetic disorders
- ICSI vs conventional IVF
- Time-lapse embryo monitoring
- ERA testing — when it’s indicated
- Surgical sperm retrieval — TESA/PESA/Micro-TESE
Pillar 5 — Cost & financing
- IVF cost in India 2026 — city-wise breakdown
- What’s included in “IVF package” pricing
- Insurance coverage for IVF — IRDAI 2024 update
- Loan and EMI options for fertility treatment
- Hidden costs — stim drugs, freezing, PGT add-ons
The intent-stage rule
Each spoke gets tagged with one of five intent stages. Content HQ enforces that the page intro, the CTA, and the internal-link block all match the tagged stage. An awareness-stage spoke does not push a consultation booking; it offers a downloadable guide. A commercial-stage spoke does the opposite.
| Stage | Spoke share | Primary CTA | Internal-link target |
|---|---|---|---|
| Awareness | 30% | Download guide | Pillar + adjacent awareness spokes |
| Education | 26% | Read pillar / book screening | Pillar + procedural spokes |
| Comparison | 14% | Compare clinics | Clinic page + cost spoke |
| Commercial | 18% | Get a quote / book consult | Pricing + reviews + clinic |
| Reassurance | 12% | Talk to a counsellor | Outcome stories + support |
Internal link discipline
Spokes link upward to their pillar, sideways to 2-3 adjacent spokes in the same pillar, and downward to no more than 1 commercial page. The pillar links downward to its top 6 spokes. This produces a topical-density signal without the over-linking that triggers Google’s low-quality content review.
The discipline matters — clinics that link every spoke to every other spoke produce a noisy graph that suppresses the very pillar they’re trying to elevate. Inside Content HQ the link auto-suggester enforces the 1-up / 2-3-side / 1-down rule.
Sequencing — what to build first
Trying to ship 84 spokes in parallel kills production quality. The proven sequence:
- Months 1-2 — All 6 pillar pages live. No spokes yet.
- Months 2-4 — Top 4 commercial spokes per pillar (24 total). These pay for the project.
- Months 4-7 — Awareness spokes (~25 pieces). Builds AIO and PAA presence.
- Months 7-12 — Education, comparison, reassurance spokes (~35 pieces).
Content HQ’s role
The architecture only holds if governance does. Content HQ enforces the rules: every spoke has a registered intent stage, every spoke is linted against the link discipline, every pillar update propagates a refresh ticket to its spokes, and the cluster scorecard is reviewed monthly. Without that governance the architecture decays inside 12 months as writers improvise.
What to do this month
- Audit your existing IVF content. Tag each piece against the 6 pillars.
- Identify the gap — usually pillars 4 and 6 are thin.
- Ship pillar pages first. Spokes can wait two months.
- Stand up the intent-stage CTA rules before writers draft.
