What is entity SEO?
Entity SEO is the practice of helping search engines and AI systems recognize a business, its people, places and services as clearly defined things, called entities, and understand how they connect. For a practice, the key entities are the practice itself, each location, each provider and each service. Consistent facts across the web make those entities easier to identify and trust.
- An entity is a uniquely identifiable thing: a practice, a doctor, a location, a procedure.
- Search engines store entities and relationships in a knowledge graph.
- Signals: consistent names and details, structured data, profiles, mentions on trusted sites.
- Strong entities help with knowledge panels, local results and AI answers.
- Every practice welcome — retainers from $499/mo, Goals-Driven engagements, Performance-Linked Payout Models available.

“They were able to get all my ideas and work with me over a period of three to four months and create this amazing website. It's super customized, very modern, and it incorporates all the elements that I had wanted — the patient portal, nice pictures, a very interactive website, patient reviews. I would highly recommend their company to anyone who wants to make an excellent website.”
What entity SEO means
Early search engines matched words on a page to words in a query. Modern systems try to understand what a page is about in terms of real-world things. Google introduced its Knowledge Graph in 2012 to store facts about entities and how they relate, and AI systems build similar internal maps from the content they read.
Entity SEO aims to make those facts unambiguous. For a practice, that means search systems can tell that a specific clinic is at a specific address, offers specific services, employs specific clinicians, and is the same organization mentioned on its Google Business Profile, directories and news stories. Ambiguity, such as two practices with similar names or a doctor listed at old locations, weakens that understanding.
The tools are familiar: clear page content, structured data that names entities and their properties, consistent listings, and profiles that link back to the official website.
How it applies to practice marketing
- One page per real entity: each provider and each location deserves its own accurate page.
- Structured data: mark up the organization, locations and physicians with schema.org types and link them with consistent identifiers.
- Same facts everywhere: names, credentials, addresses and phone numbers match across your site, Google Business Profile, NPPES and directories.
- Connect profiles: link official social, professional and directory profiles from your site, and back to it.
- Earned mentions: coverage on local news and association sites ties your entity to topics and places.

Common mistakes and limits
A common mistake is treating entity SEO as a markup project only. Schema that contradicts the visible page, or claims credentials that are not shown anywhere, does not help and can mislead. Another is leaving former providers and closed locations on the site and in directories, which confuses search systems and patients.
Results are gradual and hard to attribute. A knowledge panel or better AI mentions may follow months of consistent work, and some signals are outside your control. Measure progress through branded search visibility, accurate knowledge panels and correct details in AI answers, and keep claims in line with state board rules on credentials.

Common questions
What is an entity in SEO?
An entity is a uniquely identifiable thing, such as a person, organization, place or service, that search engines can store facts about. For a medical practice, the main entities are the practice, its locations, its providers and its services.
How does entity SEO help a medical practice?
It helps search engines and AI systems understand exactly who the practice is, where it operates, which providers work there and what services it offers. That clarity supports knowledge panels, local results and accurate mentions in AI answers.
Is entity SEO just schema markup?
No. Structured data helps, but entity SEO also depends on clear page content, consistent business details across listings, connected official profiles and mentions on trusted websites. Markup that contradicts the visible page does not help.
How long does entity SEO take to show results?
It is gradual and depends on how inconsistent the practice's information was to begin with. Correct listings and structured data can be picked up within weeks, while stronger recognition in knowledge panels and AI answers usually builds over months.
A note on this guide: it explains marketing practice, not legal advice. Rules on privacy, advertising and insurance change and vary by state, so confirm anything compliance-related with your own counsel.
