Can ChatGPT do SEO for a clinic or hospital?
ChatGPT can help with parts of SEO for a clinic or hospital, but it cannot do the job on its own. It is useful for outlining pages, drafting FAQs, suggesting title tags and spotting gaps. It cannot see your Search Console data, fix your Google Business Profile, earn links or check facts about your doctors. Under the NMC guidelines of October 2026, AI-generated promotional content is restricted and permitted AI content must be disclosed.
Can ChatGPT do SEO?
ChatGPT can do some SEO tasks, not SEO as a whole. It writes drafts, suggests structures and explains concepts quickly. But SEO depends on your own data, your Google Business Profile, your site's technical state, links from other sites and accurate medical facts. Those need access, judgement and accountability that a chat tool does not have.
| SEO task | Can ChatGPT help? | What a person must still do |
|---|---|---|
| Keyword ideas | Yes, as a brainstorm | Check real search demand and intent in Google tools |
| Page outlines and FAQ drafts | Yes | Have a doctor review every medical statement |
| Title tags and meta descriptions | Yes, as drafts | Edit for accuracy, length and compliance |
| Schema markup | Partly | Validate it and keep it matching the page |
| Technical audit | No | Crawl the site, read Search Console, fix speed and indexing |
| Google Business Profile | No | Manage categories, services, photos, posts and review replies |
| Links and mentions | No | Build relationships with relevant, reputable sites |
| Measuring results | No | Track rankings, enquiries and visits by source |
What are the risks of using ChatGPT for clinic SEO?
The main risks are wrong medical facts, generic text that does not rank, and breaking advertising rules. AI tools can state outdated or incorrect clinical information with confidence. Content that reads like every other clinic's page gives search engines no reason to rank it. And the NMC guidelines restrict AI-generated promotion.
The NMC position, as of October 2026
The NMC "Guidelines on Ethical Advertising and Public Communication" of 6 October 2026 restrict AI-generated promotional campaigns and require that permitted AI content be disclosed. Testimonials, before/after images, superlatives and inducements stay off-limits whoever writes the copy. Read ICG's note on AI content disclosure for doctors, and confirm specifics with your counsel.
Accuracy and trust
- Every clinical statement should be reviewed by a qualified doctor and dated.
- Doctor names, qualifications and registration numbers must come from your records, never from an AI draft.
- Avoid publishing large volumes of lightly edited AI text; it rarely adds anything new.
- Do not paste patient data into public AI tools; the DPDP Act 2023 applies.
How is SEO used in healthcare now that AI answers questions?
SEO now has two jobs: rank in normal search results and get cited in AI answers. Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini pull from pages that answer questions clearly, show expertise and agree with other sources. For clinics this rewards factual service pages, named doctor reviewers, consistent listings and genuine local reputation.
In other words, ChatGPT is both a tool you might use and a place you want to appear. The second matters more for patient enquiries. ICG's guide to checking if ChatGPT recommends your clinic shows how to test it.
A sensible way to use AI in clinic SEO
- Use AI to draft outlines and question lists for a service page.
- Write or rewrite the page with your doctor's real expertise and the clinic's real facts.
- Have the doctor review and approve; record the reviewer and date on the page.
- Disclose AI assistance where the NMC guidance requires it.
- Measure rankings, AI citations and enquiries, not word counts.
Who is the best SEO expert in India for healthcare?
There is no single best expert. Judge any SEO person or agency on healthcare experience, how they handle NMC rules, whether they measure qualified leads rather than traffic, and whether you keep ownership of your accounts. Ask for a sample audit and a clear 90-day plan before you sign.
- Do they work mainly in healthcare, and with your specialty?
- Do they cover Google Business Profile and AI visibility, not just rankings?
- Do they refuse to publish testimonials or "best clinic" claims?
- Do they report enquiries and visits, not only traffic?
ICG has worked only in healthcare since 2018 and uses AI as a drafting aid inside a doctor-reviewed process, never as a replacement for it. See the healthcare SEO service, or start with a free NMC compliance audit of your current site.
