Person schema (author authority) — ChatGPT Ads India glossary
The structured signal that tells ChatGPT exactly who wrote your content, and why that person should be believed.
The structured signal that tells ChatGPT exactly who wrote your content, and why that person should be believed.
In plain English, Person schema is a tag behind the scenes that tells a search engine or AI model who actually wrote a piece of content — their name, their job title, their qualifications, and where else they've published. It turns a byline that a human reads as "by Dr. Anjali Rao" into something a machine can verify and cross-reference.
Technically, Person schema is a schema.org JSON-LD object (type Person) usually nested inside an Article's author field, carrying properties like name, jobTitle, worksFor, sameAs (linking to LinkedIn or a professional registry), and credential. Combined with an author landing page, it forms the backbone of what conversational engines use to assess author authority before deciding whether to cite a page.
Healthcare is one of the categories where Google has explicitly flagged E-E-A-T (experience, expertise, authoritativeness, trust) as a ranking factor for years, and conversational engines like ChatGPT have inherited the same instinct — arguably more strongly, because a model choosing what to cite in a generated answer is making an implicit trust judgment on the advertiser's behalf, in front of the user, in real time. An unattributed or vaguely-attributed medical claim is a liability in that context; a claim carrying a named, credentialed, verifiable author is an asset.
For Indian healthcare marketers specifically, this intersects with NMC Section 6 restrictions on doctor self-promotion. A clinic can't simply plaster a doctor's name across every ad claim as a marketing device — but a properly structured Person schema on genuinely authored educational content (a consultant writing about post-surgical care, a nutritionist explaining a dietary protocol) is compliant, because it's attributing real authorship of real expertise, not running a promotional endorsement.
The competitive angle matters too. Almost no Indian healthcare or wellness advertiser is currently implementing Person schema correctly — most run generic "Admin" or "Team" bylines with no structured markup at all. That's a meaningful gap during the current 90-180 day first-mover window on ChatGPT Ads in India: the accounts that show up with real, verifiable authorship behind their landing pages are more likely to get cited in follow-up conversational turns, compounding their ad spend with organic-feeling visibility that competitors without the schema simply can't win.
There's also a durability argument. Paid placements disappear when the budget stops. A well-built author-authority profile, once established, keeps contributing to how the model perceives every future piece of content from that author or brand — it is one of the few paid-media-adjacent investments with a genuine compounding return.
Every ChatGPT Ads client at ICG gets a named-author policy before their first landing page ships. We source real credentials — medical registration numbers, professional affiliations, publication history — rather than inventing generic "expert" personas, because a fabricated author profile is both an ASCI risk and, more practically, something a diligent model or a diligent journalist can eventually unravel.
Each author gets a standing profile page with Person schema, a sameAs link to a verifiable professional profile, and a running list of the content they've authored — this is the same infrastructure ICG uses across its own named-expert byline system for eight in-house specialists, applied to client accounts. Every article or landing page linked from a ChatGPT Ads response carries the matching author field in its Article schema.
We measure this indirectly: pages with complete Person schema are tracked separately from pages without it inside the same account, and we compare their citation rate in follow-up conversational turns (visible through referral patterns in the AI Assistant GA4 channel) and their conversation-completion rate. Where the gap is meaningful, we prioritise finishing schema rollout across the remaining page set before allocating further ad budget to that campaign.
Author profiles are audited quarterly to make sure credentials, affiliations, and published-content lists stay current — a stale or inconsistent author profile undermines the exact trust signal it's meant to build.
