What is SART clinic data?
SART clinic data is the cycle-by-cycle IVF outcome data that member clinics submit each year to the Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology registry, which SART publishes as a clinic summary report for each program. For marketers, SART membership brings a written advertising policy: if a member clinic shows success data, it must follow SART's format, disclaimers and linking rules.
- SART members submit cycle-specific outcome data every year, verified by the clinic's medical director and open to validation.
- Each member program has a clinic summary report (CSR) on SART's website.
- If a member shows success rates anywhere, it must put a prominent link to its SART CSR at the top.
- SART's advertising policy prohibits superiority claims and rankings, and holds the practice responsible for ads its vendors write.
- Every practice welcome — retainers from $499/mo, Goals-Driven engagements, Performance-Linked Payout Models available.

“They were able to get all my ideas and work with me over a period of three to four months and create this amazing website. It's super customized, very modern, and it incorporates all the elements that I had wanted — the patient portal, nice pictures, a very interactive website, patient reviews. I would highly recommend their company to anyone who wants to make an excellent website.”
What is SART and what data does it hold?
SART is the professional society for US clinics that perform IVF and other assisted reproductive technology. Member clinics submit outcome data for each cycle to the SART registry, and SART publishes a clinic summary report for each member program plus a national summary. The data is also used to meet federal reporting duties to the CDC.
SART membership requires a clinic to submit its cycle-specific outcome data every year, have it verified by its medical director, allow the data to be disclosed publicly, and allow it to be validated. SART's national summary tracks cycles started for egg retrieval over time, so it includes both fresh and frozen embryo transfers from the same retrieval.
SART data and CDC data come from the same reporting effort but are presented differently. CDC pages are the federal record. SART's clinic summary report is the page SART expects member clinics to point patients to.
What does the SART advertising policy require?
SART's policy for advertising by ART programs, revised July 2022, makes compliance a condition of membership. It covers websites, social media, video, print and talks. Showing success rates is optional, but a clinic that shows them must follow the format and disclosure rules below.
| Rule | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Link to the CSR first | A prominent link to the clinic's SART clinic summary report must sit at the top of any success-rate presentation. |
| SART format | Live births per cycle start (intended retrieval) come first, by SART age group; per-retrieval and per-transfer figures may follow. |
| Show the denominator | Small data points must show both live births and cycle starts; larger ones must show cycle starts and the percentage. |
| Required disclaimer | Quoted statistics must carry SART's statement that clinic comparisons may not be meaningful. |
| No superiority or ranking | Claims of being better than other clinics, rankings, and links to ranking sites are prohibited. |
| Own data only | A clinic advertises only its own statistics; a new clinic without data must say so and cannot borrow a parent clinic's rates. |
| Update on time | Supplemental website data must be updated within 30 days of SART's annual public release. |
The policy also states that the practice and its medical director are responsible for all advertising, including content written by outside agencies.
How should a fertility marketer work with SART clinic data?
Treat SART data as a fixed source you link to, not raw material for headlines. Build one success-data page that follows the SART order, then point every ad, social post and blog that mentions outcomes to that page. Keep a release-date reminder so updates happen inside the 30-day window.
- Before launch: check that every location with its own lab has its own data or the new-clinic disclaimer.
- In ads: keep success figures out of short ad formats where the required link and disclaimer cannot fit.
- In content: explain what intended retrieval means and why age matters; this content answers real patient questions and earns links.
- In reviews and AI answers: monitor where third parties quote your rates out of context, and correct your own pages first.
The broader rules on outcome claims are in our guide to advertising IVF success rates. Clinics running Meta campaigns should also read the fertility advertising compliance guide.
What mistakes do clinics make with SART data?
Most problems come from vendors who do not know the policy exists. Typical errors are a per-transfer rate in an ad headline, a "top clinic" badge from a ranking website, or a satellite office quoting the main lab's numbers. Each one can trigger a SART complaint review.
- No link to the CSR, or a link placed below the clinic's own charts.
- Missing the required comparison disclaimer.
- Using clinical pregnancy or implantation rates where SART expects live births.
- Leaving old data live long after a new release.
Under the policy, SART gives a program 14 days to correct substantial violations before further steps. Share the policy with every agency and freelancer who writes for the clinic. For a managed approach, see our fertility marketing agency page.

Common questions
What is a SART clinic summary report?
It is the public page SART publishes for each member clinic, showing that program's IVF outcomes in SART's standard format by age group. Member clinics that present success rates in any advertising must link prominently to their clinic summary report before showing any other success data.
Do SART member clinics have to show success rates on their website?
No. SART's advertising policy says displaying success data is not mandatory. If a member clinic chooses to show it, the presentation must start with a prominent link to its SART clinic summary report and follow SART's format and disclaimer rules.
Can a fertility clinic advertise that it is ranked highly?
Not if it is a SART member. SART's advertising policy prohibits ranking programs, claims of superiority and links to websites that rank IVF programs, because patient demographics and case difficulty differ between clinics. Member clinics should remove such badges and claims.
Who is responsible if an agency breaks SART advertising rules?
The clinic. SART's policy holds the practice and its medical director responsible for all advertising, including material produced by outside vendors. Clinics should share the policy with every agency and freelancer and review success-related content before it goes live.
A note on this guide: it explains marketing practice, not legal advice. Rules on privacy, advertising and insurance change and vary by state, so confirm anything compliance-related with your own counsel.
