Is Bengaluru the hardest Indian city for clinics to compete on Google?
Healthcare Brands in Bengaluru on Google 2026: Review Study
35 leading Bengaluru healthcare brands · 7 specialties · 1,750 reviews · October 2026
Short answer: nearly. In ICG's October 2026 study of the 35 most-reviewed healthcare brands in each of seven Indian cities, Bengaluru ranked second on both review depth and review pace: the median leader had 2,082 Google reviews and added 29.2 a month, about 27% faster than the national median. Only Hyderabad (2,649 reviews, 36.4 a month) set a higher bar.
Bengaluru is often described as India's most digital healthcare market. The review data supports that in one specific way: the city's leading clinics and hospitals collect reviews quickly and keep doing so. This article uses ICG's Bengaluru healthcare Google review study to show what that means for a clinic trying to compete, and why the city's most distinctive complaint is not about medicine at all.
Bengaluru against the other metros
| City (35 leading brands) | New reviews / month | Median reviews | Negative share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyderabad | 36.4 | 2,649 | 9.3% |
| Bengaluru | 29.2 | 2,082 | 7.2% |
| Kolkata | 23.7 | 1,465 | 8.6% |
| Mumbai | 22.3 | 1,359 | 3.5% |
| Delhi | 21.0 | 1,685 | 10.9% |
| Pune | 19.5 | 1,866 | 7.5% |
| Chennai | 17.5 | 1,880 | 7.6% |
| All seven cities | 22.9 | 1,910 | 7.8% |

Pace matters more than the total. The total is history; the pace tells you how fast the gap grows if you stand still. A Bengaluru leader adding 29 reviews a month gains about 350 a year. A clinic adding five a month falls further behind every single month, even while its own count rises.
The arithmetic of catching up
Suppose a new clinic matches the median leader's pace from day one, 30 reviews a month. It would take close to six years to reach today's median of 2,082. That is not a reason to give up on reviews. It is a reason to pick the right comparison. Google's local results depend on distance and relevance as well as prominence, so a clinic in HSR Layout competes first with the profiles a patient sees when searching from HSR Layout, not with the busiest hospital in the city.
Ratings are close; experience is not
Bengaluru leaders averaged 4.75 stars, slightly below the national 4.78 and level with Chennai. Only 7.2% of their written reviews were negative (98 of 1,365), a little better than the national 7.8%. The rating and the overall sentiment, in other words, look ordinary. The complaints are where Bengaluru looks different.
Main theme of negative Google reviews, leading Bengaluru healthcare brands
n = 98 negative reviews · 35 leading brands · 7 specialties · October 2026
Booking and communication was the main subject of 15.3% of negative reviews in Bengaluru, the highest share of the seven cities and half as much again as the national 10.1%. Cleanliness, rarely mentioned anywhere, was also highest here at 5.1%. Add waiting and close to a third (33.7%) of Bengaluru complaints concern getting through to the clinic, getting a slot and being kept informed.
That is a striking pattern in a city where patients book online, message on WhatsApp and expect a reply. A plausible reading, though our data cannot prove the cause, is that expectations of responsiveness are higher, so gaps in it are punished more often.
What Bengaluru clinics and hospitals can do
- Treat response time as part of marketing. Measure how long a WhatsApp message, a web form or a missed call waits for a reply, by branch and by hour. A healthcare CRM makes this visible. Our article on lead response time covers the operating model.
- Confirm, remind and update. A confirmation with the doctor's name, a reminder the day before and a message if the doctor is running late cover most booking and communication complaints.
- Match the leaders' review pace, locally. Send every patient a review link after the visit. Google prohibits incentives and selective requests, so the message must go to everyone.
- Reply to more reviews. Bengaluru leaders replied to 56.7% of reviews, below the national 60.5%. Replies that acknowledge a booking problem and say what has changed are especially persuasive to readers.
- Keep data out of replies. Never confirm a reviewer was a patient or discuss their care in public; the DPDP Act 2023 treats that as disclosure of personal data.
