Why are eye hospital complaints mostly about waiting time?
Eye Hospitals on Google in India 2026: Review Study
35 leading eye hospital brands · 7 metros · 75 negative reviews classified · October 2026
Short answer: because waiting is the one thing that goes wrong most often in a high-volume eye visit. Among negative Google reviews of the 35 most-reviewed eye hospital brands in seven Indian metros, 44.0% were mainly about waiting or scheduling, more than double the 18.8% across all healthcare. Results were the main complaint in only 4.0%.
The figure comes from ICG's eye hospital Google review study, one of seven specialty studies published in October 2026. It is the single most lopsided complaint pattern in the whole dataset, and it points eye hospital marketing teams at a problem they can partly solve without touching clinical work.
One complaint dominates
Main theme of negative Google reviews, leading eye hospitals
n = 75 negative reviews · 35 leading eye hospital brands · 7 metros · October 2026
Put waiting and booking together and close to six in ten eye hospital complaints are about time and access (58.7%). Compare that with dental clinics, where money was the main complaint, or IVF centres, where staff manner and price led.
Context: eye hospitals are busy, and well liked
This is not a picture of a badly reviewed specialty. Leading eye hospitals averaged 4.80 stars, only 6.3% of their classified reviews were negative, and staff and bedside manner was the main theme of 56.7% of all written reviews, most of them positive. They are also among the busiest profiles on Google: a median of 6,424 reviews and about 136 new reviews a month, second only to multispeciality hospitals.
High volume is the likely link. Eye visits often involve several steps before the patient sees the doctor, and a busy outpatient department turns small delays at each step into a long day. Our data shows what patients wrote, not what caused the delay, but the pattern is consistent enough to plan around.
Eye hospitals against the rest of the study
| Measure (leading brands) | Eye hospitals | All 245 brands |
|---|---|---|
| Average Google rating | 4.80★ | 4.78★ |
| Share of classified reviews that were negative | 6.3% | 7.8% |
| Median total reviews | 6,424 | 1,910 |
| Median new reviews per month | 135.6 | 22.9 |
| Average reply rate | 60.3% | 60.5% |
| Waiting as main theme of negative reviews | 44.0% | 18.8% |
On almost every measure eye hospitals look like the healthcare average or better. The one exception is waiting, and it is large. That makes it an unusually clear target: fix one theme and the specialty's main source of public criticism shrinks.
What a better confirmation message looks like
A typical appointment confirmation gives a date, a time and an address. A wait-aware one adds three lines: how long the visit usually takes in total, which tests happen before the consultation, and whether the patient should bring someone with them or arrange transport afterwards if your clinicians advise it. It costs nothing to send and answers the question most complaints are really asking: "why did nobody tell me?"
What eye hospital marketing teams can change
- Tell patients how long the visit takes, before they come. Put "Plan for about two to three hours, including tests" (or whatever is true for you) in the booking confirmation, on the website and in the Google profile description. Many wait complaints are about a gap between expectation and reality.
- Explain the sequence. A short note or video on what happens at each step (registration, tests, consultation, counselling) makes the wait feel purposeful.
- Send live updates. A WhatsApp message when the patient is next, or when the doctor is delayed, reduces frustration in the waiting area.
- Publish department-level hours on the Google profile and website, and keep holiday hours current.
- Fix the phones. Booking and communication made up 14.7% of complaints. Track missed calls and response times by branch with a healthcare CRM.
- Reply to wait complaints quickly and specifically. Acknowledge the wait, say what is changing, give a contact. Do not mention clinical details. See should a clinic reply to every review.
- Report it upward. A monthly count of wait-related reviews by branch gives operations a clear target.
Our eye hospital marketing team works on these alongside patient acquisition, with Google Business Profile management for every branch and broader hospital marketing support.
