Glossary · Meta Ads

Naming Intelligence — the ad-set discipline that saves ₹50K-2L/month.

Naming Intelligence is Meta Catalyst IQ's ad-set naming discipline. Enforces {service}_{location}_{format}_{content}_{details} schema. Flags conflicts that hide Meta's algorithmic learning and team diagnosis. Portfolio average: 65% of ad sets inconsistently named until fixed.

Mechanism

How it works.

Naming is the connective tissue between what a media buyer intended and what Meta's algorithm and the reporting layer can see. When names drift — free-text descriptions, personal shorthand, half-conventions from three previous freelancers — three things break: Meta cannot consolidate learning across duplicate audiences, the SLC Framework cannot slice cleanly by dimension, and diagnosis takes hours instead of minutes when a new team member opens the account. Naming Intelligence fixes all three by turning the ad-set name into a machine-readable string with a controlled vocabulary on every dimension. The pre-flight enforcement runs at create-time, so the discipline never depends on someone remembering.

  1. Schema definition. {service}_{location}_{format}_{content}_{details} — five dimensions, underscore-separated, no free text past dimension five.
  2. Controlled vocabulary. Format limited to Reel / Static / Carousel / Video / GIF / Story. Content limited to Testimonial / Offer / Educational / Founder / UGC / Before-After / Q&A / Mythbuster.
  3. Pre-flight check. At ad-set create, the name is validated against schema and vocabulary; non-compliance blocks publish with a corrected suggestion.
  4. Retro-fix scan. Existing account audited at onboarding — every mis-named ad set flagged with the corrected name, ready for a one-click rename.
  5. Consolidation detection. Ad sets with different names but the same effective audience-service pairing flagged as candidates for consolidation.
  6. Downstream unlock. Clean names feed the SLC Framework slicer, the Creative Scoring Matrix specialty benchmark, and the CPQL attribution join.
Compliance angle

Why it matters for
Indian healthcare.

Consistent naming carries a compliance load that ad-hoc naming cannot. Under DPDP Act 2023, a lead-form ad handling patient data has to be traceable back to a specific consent notice — Naming Intelligence keeps the trace by encoding service and location in every ad-set name, so a DPDP audit can pull every ad set touching, say, IVF leads in Bangalore in one filter. NMC Code of Ethics 2023 and ASCI pre-publish reviews rely on being able to filter every active ad by service to check that no ad in that service line carries "best" or "guaranteed" claims — impossible when half the ad sets are named "ivf_final_v2" and the other half "IVF_Bangalore_Q3". For IVF clinics, ART Act 2021 record-keeping is easier when every ad set naming its service explicitly can be pulled in a single report. For diagnostic labs, PC-PNDT filters on gynaecology creatives depend on the service dimension being reliable.

Inside Meta Catalyst IQ

How ICG uses this.

The Naming Intelligence module inside Meta Catalyst IQ runs first at every onboarding. The pattern is consistent across the portfolio: on the audit-day scan, 65% of existing ad sets fail the schema check, either through free-text drift or through wrong-vocabulary values in the Format and Content dimensions. Retro-fixing those names, consolidating duplicate ad sets that the naming had hidden, and turning on the pre-flight enforcement recovers between ₹50,000 and ₹2,00,000 a month of avoidable spend for the average managed account within the first thirty days. Team-diagnosis time on a mid-cycle account drop from a full afternoon to under twenty minutes, because filters actually return the right ad sets.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Why does ad-set naming save real money?

Because Meta cannot exit learning cleanly when two ad sets targeting the same audience-service combination are named differently — the algorithm treats them as separate learning problems and spreads the conversion signal thin. Fix the naming, consolidate the ad sets, and CPL drops without changing the creative. Across the ICG portfolio, the average clinic recovers between ₹50,000 and ₹2,00,000 a month in avoidable waste within thirty days of a naming clean-up.

What does the {service}_{location}_{format}_{content}_{details} schema look like?

A real example: IVF_BLR-KOR_Reel_Testimonial_Aisha-30s. Service = IVF. Location = Bangalore-Koramangala. Format = Reel. Content = Testimonial. Details = the specific creative variant. Every dimension has a controlled vocabulary — Format can only be one of six values, Content one of eight — so filtering by any dimension produces clean segmentation. No free-text drift, no team-member variants.

What breaks when naming is inconsistent?

Three things break at once. First, the SLC Framework report is unreliable because dimension filters catch different subsets of ad sets on each run. Second, the Creative Scoring Matrix mis-classifies because the specialty benchmark cannot be computed cleanly. Third, the account audit takes hours instead of minutes because every new analyst has to re-learn the ad-hoc conventions the previous buyer left behind.

How is Naming Intelligence enforced without slowing the media team down?

A pre-flight check runs at ad-set creation. If the name does not match the {service}_{location}_{format}_{content}_{details} schema, Meta Catalyst IQ blocks the publish with a one-line reason and the correct suggested name. The buyer accepts the suggestion in a click and the ad set is created. No slowdown, no arguments about convention — the schema is the schema.
