Creative Scoring Matrix — the 4-zone kill / scale / learn / iterate call.

Creative Scoring Matrix is Meta Catalyst IQ's 4-zone classification for every ad in the account. Each ad scored on Hook rate, Hold rate, CTR, CPL, and Result Rate against specialty benchmark, then bucketed into scale / test-scaling / let-it-learn / kill.

Mechanism

How it works.

The decision that eats a Meta budget is which ad to scale, which to leave alone, and which to kill. Ads Manager gives you a table of columns and a subjective call; Creative Scoring Matrix removes the subjective call. Every ad in the account is scored on five metrics against the client's own specialty benchmark, then classified into exactly one of four zones. The zone drives the next action, and the next action is deterministic — a Core Performer gets duplicated into a fresh ad set with a higher budget within 24 hours, a Review-zone ad past its learning window gets iterated or paused. The four zones exist because a single "good / bad" split hides two important cases: an ad still in learning, and an ad beating on volume but losing on cost.

  1. Metric ingest. Hook rate, Hold rate, CTR, CPL, Result Rate pulled per ad from the Meta Marketing API every 24 hours.
  2. Specialty benchmark call. Each metric compared against the client's live specialty benchmark, not a generic one — IVF benchmarks are not dental benchmarks.
  3. Zone assignment. Core Performer, Scalable, Getting Started, or Review — mutually exclusive, refreshed daily.
  4. Action queue. Each zone maps to a deterministic next action — scale, test-scale, hold, iterate/kill — surfaced in the morning task list.
  5. Fatigue watch. Trend on Hook rate and CTR flagged before CPL breaks — a Core Performer sliding on Hook rate is warned two-to-three days early.
  6. CPQL feedback. CRM-side qualified-booking data loops back so cheap leads that never book are down-weighted on the next run.
Compliance angle

Why it matters for
Indian healthcare.

A Meta ad in Indian healthcare is a communication under both platform policy and Indian law. The Creative Scoring Matrix runs a compliance pre-check before an ad enters the scoring pool — if the copy violates ASCI code on unsubstantiable superlatives ("best", "leading", "#1") or NMC Code of Ethics 2023 on unsolicited solicitation, the ad is quarantined rather than scored. For cosmetic and IVF creatives, DCI and ART Act 2021 filters catch before/after imagery misuse and success-rate claims. PC-PNDT Act language filters catch sex-selection wording on gynaecology creatives. And every lead-form ad routed through the Matrix is scored against a DPDP Act 2023 consent-string check — a lead-form ad missing the Section 6 consent block is flagged as non-compliant before it goes to scale. The point is that a Core Performer that is non-compliant is not a Core Performer.

Inside Meta Catalyst IQ

How ICG uses this.

Creative Scoring Matrix is the working view every ICG media buyer opens first inside Meta Catalyst IQ. Across the managed Meta portfolio, the Matrix classifies, on average, 18% of ads as Core Performer, 22% as Scalable, 31% as Getting Started, and 29% as Review — meaning close to a third of every account is running spend on ads that should be iterated or killed on any given day. The scaling loop is deterministic: a Core Performer that has held the zone for three consecutive daily scans is auto-queued into a duplicate-ad-set-with-uplift task. The kill loop is equally deterministic: a Review-zone ad past its learning window is auto-queued for iteration, so ad spend never sits on a fatigued creative for more than a week.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Why score creatives instead of trusting Meta's delivery algorithm?

Meta optimises for its objective, not the clinic's. A campaign delivering the cheapest lead is often the campaign delivering the wrong lead — high volume, low intent, high CPQL downstream. The Creative Scoring Matrix scores every ad on the five metrics that predict qualified booking, then hard-classifies it, so budget decisions get made on intent-adjusted signal, not on Meta's in-platform default.

What are the four zones and what triggers each?

Core Performer beats specialty benchmark on all five metrics — scale immediately. Scalable beats on four of five — test-scale in a duplicate ad set. Getting Started is inside the learning window, under 50 results — let it learn, do not touch. Review is under-performing on three or more metrics past the learning window — pause, iterate, or kill. Every ad sits in exactly one zone at any moment.

What are the five scoring metrics?

Hook rate — 3-second video view %. Hold rate — 15-second view %. CTR — link click-through %. CPL — cost per lead delivered. Result Rate — leads-per-thousand-reach normalised. Each metric is scored against the client's live specialty benchmark, not a generic industry number, because the benchmark for cosmetic dermatology in Delhi is not the benchmark for orthopaedics in Chennai.

How often does the Matrix re-classify?

Every 24 hours after the learning-window buffer. An ad that was Core Performer on Monday can drop to Review by Friday if creative fatigue kicks in — the CTR and Hook rate curves collapse first, and the Matrix flags them before the CPL curve catches up. The daily re-classification is what lets an operator kill a fatiguing winner two-to-three days before the account starts bleeding.
