Indian Healthcare YouTube Benchmarks 2026
8,749 healthcare videos. 447,875 daily CTR records. What actually performs on YouTube for Indian doctors, clinics, hospitals and pharma brands in 2026 — and what does not.
Indian healthcare YouTube in one screen.
- Average CTR is 3.98% across 8,475 healthcare videos in August 2026 — with 77.2 million monthly impressions across the panel. That is the number to sanity-check your channel against.
- Long-form beats Shorts by 2.3x on average lifetime views per video (9,514 vs 4,071, videos published August 2026). On median day-30 views across the catalogue, Shorts lead 5.8x — the two numbers measure different things. Shorts win on publish velocity; long-form wins on compounding view minutes and AI Overview citation odds.
- 96% of tracked healthcare keyword checks returned an AI Overview panel with a YouTube carousel embedded (328 of 342 checks in August 2026). YouTube is no longer optional inventory for AIO capture.
- Optimal Shorts duration in India healthcare is 56 seconds; optimal long-form is 7.2 minutes (436 seconds average). Both figures are empirical medians across the panel, not opinion.
- Average YouTube carousel position inside AI Overviews is 4.49 — placing well-optimised videos consistently inside the first visible row of AIO video carousels.
- Publishing cadence has shifted decisively toward Shorts — 194 Shorts vs 116 long-form videos published in August 2026 across the ICG panel. The winners run both, not either.

How the numbers were built.
The panel underlying this report is the Indian healthcare video inventory tracked by YODA — ICG's proprietary YouTube performance and AI Overview intelligence platform for healthcare. Every metric below is a first-party number, computed from the operating tables that power YODA dashboards.
Aggregation and anonymisation
Every underlying data point sits on a channel, video, and query that can be traced back to a real healthcare brand. For this public report each metric is aggregated to the specialty or panel level — no channel, video URL, brand name, hospital, doctor, or city is disclosed. Row-level data is available only to signed ICG clients under NDA. All CTR, impressions and view figures are impression-weighted where a mean is reported, and rounded to the nearest integer or one decimal place where a percentage is reported. The catalogue is refreshed daily from YouTube Data API v3; the CTR and impression panel is refreshed daily from Search Console for the same corpus of URLs.
Seven data points that change how you plan the next quarter.
Healthcare YouTube CTR in India settled at 3.98% in 2026.
Across 8,475 healthcare videos in the ICG panel, August 2026 delivered a 3.98% average click-through rate on 77.2 million impressions. July was 3.96% on 60.4 million impressions; June was 3.81% on 32.5 million; May was 4.05% on 3.9 million. The band is remarkably tight — pooled healthcare CTR in India sits inside a 3.8% – 4.1% envelope regardless of the volume in a given month.
Implication for marketers. If your healthcare channel is running under 3.5% CTR, the problem is almost never audience — it is thumbnail and title packaging. If you are already above 4.5% you are in the top quartile of the ICG panel and should shift the constraint onto watch time and description-embedded CTAs, not more clicks.
Long-form videos beat Shorts by 2.3x on average lifetime views.
Long-form healthcare videos published in August 2026 averaged 9,514 lifetime views. Shorts published in the same month averaged 4,071 lifetime views. The gap widens if you look at the March 2026 cohort — long-form 18,877 average vs Shorts 7,736 average, a 2.4x gap.
Implication. The two formats do different jobs. Shorts pay the algorithm rent; long-form pays the AI Overview and search-suggestion rent. Channels that run only Shorts stall on discoverability inside AI Overview panels because most healthcare AIO citations still resolve to a proper video watch page, not a Shorts reel.
96% of tracked healthcare keyword checks now return an AI Overview with a YouTube video carousel.
In August 2026, 328 of 342 tracked keyword checks (95.9%) surfaced an AI Overview panel that included a video carousel. Average YouTube carousel position for the tracked panel videos was 4.49 — squarely inside the first visible row on most desktop and mobile SERPs. Average AI Overview citation position for the same videos was 4.80, meaning when a video is chosen for AIO citation it typically lands in the top-five source stack.
Implication. YouTube is no longer a brand-awareness surface for healthcare — it is a Search + AI Overview surface. Channels that treat it like a lifestyle broadcaster (no chapters, no timestamps, no on-video text summarising the answer) are giving away AIO citation odds to competitors who structure the content for extraction.
The optimal duration landing zone: 56 seconds for Shorts, 7.2 minutes for long-form.
Median duration for Shorts across the panel in August 2026 was 56.3 seconds. Median duration for long-form was 435.6 seconds (7.26 minutes). Older Shorts cohorts (2024 – early 2025) ran shorter — 43–47 seconds — but the 2026 winners have converged upward on the 55–65 second band, driven by more room for a real answer plus a CTA card at the end.
Implication. If your Shorts are consistently under 40 seconds you are losing the AIO-citation surface entirely. If your long-form runs over 12 minutes without chapter markers, watch-time retention curves collapse — the panel median for retention on chapter-free videos over 12 minutes is 27% of duration, versus 46% for chaptered videos in the 6 – 9 minute band.
Publishing cadence has tilted decisively toward Shorts — 1.67x the volume of long-form.
194 Shorts were published across the panel in August 2026 versus 116 long-form. In July the split was 126 vs 88; in June 133 vs 73; in March 147 vs 72. On average, 2026 has run at roughly 1.6 – 1.8 Shorts per every long-form published — the reverse of the 2023 pattern, when long-form led publishing volume in every month.
Implication. The winning healthcare channels in 2026 are not shooting more videos, they are decomposing every long-form into 4 – 6 Shorts. Cost per Short is negligible when it is a slice of a shoot you were already doing. That is the productivity unlock — not a separate Shorts programme.
Channel breadth has expanded: 22 active healthcare channels in Aug 2026 vs 14 in Aug 2024.
The panel has grown from 14 active healthcare channels in August 2024 (with 12,189 avg Shorts views and 25,140 avg long-form views) to 22 active channels in August 2026 (with 4,071 avg Shorts views and 9,514 avg long-form views). Per-channel averages have compressed because more channels are competing for the same specialty audience — not because the format has weakened.
Implication. Per-channel view averages will keep compressing as the specialty-fragmented healthcare creator base expands. The channels that hold view averages are the ones publishing more, publishing tighter, and slicing every long-form into Shorts. A stationary channel in a moving corpus is losing share.
IVF and fertility videos over-index on long-form watch depth.
Inside the IVF specialty slice, long-form videos published in August 2026 averaged 490 seconds (8.2 minutes) — meaningfully longer than the pan-healthcare 7.2 minute median. Shorts in the IVF slice averaged 51.4 seconds. The pattern holds every month across 2026: fertility patients are researching, not scrolling, so the videos that convert lean longer, more educational, and more clinician-led.
Implication. Not all healthcare specialties should run the same duration playbook. IVF, oncology, cardiology and organ-transplant content should lean 8 – 12 minutes long-form. Dental, dermatology and diagnostic lab content should lean 5 – 8 minutes. Shorts durations converge across specialties (52 – 60 seconds); long-form durations diverge.

AI Overview presence · healthcare queries · Aug 2026.
On healthcare keyword checks in August 2026, 96% of results returned an AI Overview panel with a YouTube video carousel. Only 4% of checks returned a text-only or no-AIO panel.
Sample: 342 tracked keyword checks across 72 keywords for 4 healthcare clients. Average YouTube carousel position was 4.49; average AI Overview citation position was 4.80.
Four takeaways for the next quarter's plan.
1. Slice every long-form into 4 – 6 Shorts.
The panel data is clear: Shorts and long-form do different jobs. Publish one long-form per week and slice each into 4 – 6 Shorts. Marginal cost of a Short from an existing shoot is near zero; upside on discovery is real.
2. Engineer for AI Overview extraction.
96% of tracked queries had an AIO video carousel. Every long-form needs chapter markers, on-screen text summarising the answer, a description with timestamps, and an accurate transcript. That is what the extraction models see.
3. Match duration to specialty intent.
IVF long-form should lean 8 – 12 minutes. Dental and dermatology long-form should lean 5 – 8 minutes. Shorts stay in the 55 – 65 second band across specialties. Do not use one duration template for a multi-specialty channel.
4. Sanity-check against 3.98% CTR.
If your CTR is under 3.5%, invest in packaging (thumbnail + title). If you are already above 4.5%, shift the constraint onto watch time, retention, and description CTAs. The CTR envelope for Indian healthcare is tight; do not overspend chasing the wrong lever.
Six questions Indian healthcare marketers keep asking about YouTube.
What is the average CTR for a healthcare YouTube video in India in 2026?
Across 8,475 healthcare videos in the ICG panel for August 2026, the average impression-weighted click-through rate was 3.98%. That is the pooled figure across shorts, long-form, published, and evergreen inventory across 22 healthcare channels. If your channel is below 3.5%, the packaging (thumbnail plus title) is almost certainly the blocker.
Do YouTube Shorts or long-form videos work better for healthcare in India?
Long-form outperforms Shorts on average lifetime views per video by roughly 2.3x. Long-form healthcare videos published in August 2026 averaged 9,514 lifetime views versus 4,071 for Shorts. (Median day-30 views, a different measure, favour Shorts 5.8x across the catalogue.) Shorts win on velocity — 194 Shorts published versus 116 long-form in August 2026 across the panel — but long-form compounds harder and pulls the AI Overview citations.
What is the ideal duration for a healthcare YouTube video?
India healthcare Shorts average 56 seconds in the ICG panel. Long-form healthcare videos average 7.2 minutes (436 seconds). IVF and cardiology lean longer at 8 – 12 minutes; dental, dermatology and diagnostic labs lean 5 – 8 minutes. Both figures are empirical medians across the panel, not opinion.
How often does a YouTube video get cited inside an AI Overview for a healthcare query in India?
On 96% of tracked healthcare keyword checks in August 2026 (328 of 342), the AI Overview panel returned a YouTube video carousel. Average carousel position for the tracked ICG videos was 4.49, placing them consistently inside the visible first row of the AIO video carousel.
How many videos should a healthcare brand publish on YouTube in a month?
Across the ICG panel in 2026, the median active channel published between 10 and 20 videos per month. The upper quartile — panel-wide 140+ videos per month — skews to programmatic Shorts. For a specialty clinic, a 4 long-form plus 8 Shorts monthly cadence is the ICG-portfolio operating point. The winning channels do not shoot more, they slice more.
How much does a healthcare YouTube retainer cost in India?
Retainers from Rs 20,000/month. Every engagement is custom-scoped by video velocity, editing depth, Shorts programme, community management and AI Overview optimisation. YouTube-only retainers, YouTube inside a full performance stack, and YouTube plus AIO capture programmes are all separately scoped. There are no fixed tiers — the scoping conversation always starts with your channel's current baseline.
