Direct answer
The Meta Ad Library features most healthcare marketers miss — keyword search across ad copy, regional-language queries, date filters, Page transparency reads, and the workarounds for its known limitations.
TL;DR
Most healthcare marketers use Meta Ad Library at about 20% of its capability. They open it, type a competitor's brand name, scroll through the ads that show up, and leave. That workflow is fine for a first pass, but it misses the features that turn the free tool into a real competitive intelligence surface. This guide is the collection of Ad Library hacks that we use inside ICG on every account, most of which are not documented well anywhere and only become obvious after months of daily use.
None of these are unofficial workarounds or scrapes. Everything below uses features Meta ships publicly. If you also use PrismSpy, many of these become automated (saved watchlists, historical archives, cross-brand pattern matching) — but knowing the underlying Ad Library hacks makes you better at directing the tool.

Hack 1: keyword search across ad copy
Most people only search by advertiser. The keyword search is the more powerful feature. Instead of typing a brand name, type a treatment plus a city — "IVF Delhi", "hair transplant Bangalore", "clear aligners Pune". Ad Library returns every advertiser whose active ad copy contains that phrase.
This is the discovery step. It surfaces competitors you did not know were advertising in your slice. Every healthcare agency onboarding a new city account should run 8-12 keyword searches (major treatment plus city, all specialties) before touching a single competitor's brand page. You will consistently find 3-5 advertisers you did not know were in the market.
Hack 2: regional-language search
Ad Library indexes ad copy in the language it is written. English-only searches skip a huge slice of the market. Try these:
- "आईवीएफ इलाज" (IVF treatment in Hindi)
- "முடி மாற்று அறுவை" (hair transplant in Tamil)
- "గర్భ ధారణ" (conception in Telugu)
- "ਦੰਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ" (dental treatment in Punjabi)
Tier-2 and Tier-3 city ads often run entirely in regional languages, targeting audiences that do not scroll English-language social media. If your competitive intelligence stops at English, you are missing the Hindi-first, Tamil-first, and Bengali-first advertisers who often dominate mid-tier city markets.
Hack 3: the started-running date filter
Ad Library ships a "started running" date filter that most people miss because it sits behind a click. Use it to narrow to ads launched in a specific window — the past 7 days, the past 30 days, the past quarter. This is how you spot new campaign launches without having to remember what a competitor was running last month.
Combine with keyword search: "IVF Delhi" plus "started running in past 7 days" surfaces every new IVF ad launched in Delhi in the past week. Do this every Monday and you catch competitor launches inside 7 days, which is usually enough time to plan a response campaign for the next cycle.
Hack 4: platform filter for audience inference
The platform filter lets you toggle Facebook, Instagram, Reels, Messenger, and Audience Network individually. The mix tells you about the competitor's audience strategy:
- Instagram-heavy portfolio. Usually targets under-35 audiences. Common for aesthetic clinics, aligners, cosmetic dentistry.
- Facebook-heavy portfolio. Usually targets 35+ audiences. Common for IVF, cardiology, orthopedic.
- Reels-heavy portfolio. Usually signals aggressive top-of-funnel testing. Also common for aesthetic and dental.
- Balanced mix. Suggests the brand is running across the full age spectrum, which usually means a large advertiser (hospital chain, multi-specialty).
Hack 5: Page transparency reads
On any Facebook Page, click "Page transparency" (in the About section). You get four useful data points:
- Previous page names. Reveals rebrands, mergers, and identity shifts.
- Admin location. Which country the page is administered from. Useful for spotting outsourced page management.
- Page creation date. Whether the "new" competitor is actually a 5-year-old page relaunched.
- Verification history. Whether the page has been verified, and any status changes.
Page transparency reads take 2 minutes per page. Do it on every new competitor you discover through keyword search — it saves you from misreading a rebrand as a launch, or an outsourced page as a local operation.
Hack 6: the "multiple pages, same brand" problem
Many healthcare chains run ads from multiple Facebook Pages — parent brand, individual clinic locations, doctor personal pages. A search for the parent brand name misses the location-level pages. The workaround: after finding the parent page, look at the ad copy for city or location mentions, then search for "[brand name] [city]" or "[brand name] [locality]" as separate page names.
Real example pattern: Nova IVF runs ads under Nova IVF (parent), Nova IVF Bangalore, Nova IVF Chennai, Nova IVF Hyderabad, and several city-level pages. A parent-only search misses roughly 60% of the total ad volume for the brand. PrismSpy solves this by maintaining a page-hierarchy mapping so all ads under a brand roll up into one view.
Hack 7: the URL-based bookmark workaround
Ad Library does not have saved searches natively. The workaround: every search you run generates a shareable URL. Bookmark the URL and it re-runs the search when you open the bookmark. For a solo strategist tracking 10 competitors, this is enough — build a browser bookmark folder with 10 bookmarks, one per competitor's Ad Library search URL.
The limit is scale. Beyond 10-15 bookmarks the manual workflow gets slow. This is one of the specific problems Meta Catalyst IQ and PrismSpy solve — persistent watchlists with automated daily refresh and diff view.
Hack 8: the "why does this ad not show?" diagnostic
Sometimes you know an ad is running because you have seen it in your feed, but it does not appear in Ad Library. Three possible reasons:
- Audience Network placement only. Some ads run only on Meta's Audience Network partner sites, which have different disclosure rules.
- Different page name. The ad runs from a Facebook Page you did not search for (see the multi-page problem above).
- Recent pause. The ad paused within the past 24 hours; the pause reflection has not propagated yet.
If you cannot find an ad you know is running, work through this checklist. In most cases the answer is the second bullet — a location-specific page you did not know about.
The 30-minute intelligence walk
Combine the hacks above into a 30-minute weekly intelligence walk: 5 minutes on keyword searches (Hacks 1-2), 5 minutes on date filters (Hack 3), 10 minutes on the top 5 competitors' active ads with platform filters and Page transparency (Hacks 4-5), 5 minutes on multi-page rollups (Hack 6), 5 minutes updating bookmarks (Hack 7). That is the free-tool version of a systematic weekly audit.
Above 5 competitors, the manual workflow starts breaking. That is where PrismSpy's watchlists earn their keep. But do not buy tools to avoid the discipline of the workflow — build the workflow first, buy the tool when the workflow is producing decisions and the manual time is the bottleneck.
