Direct answer

Seven-step methodology for tearing down competitor IVF Meta ads using public sources only. Offer stack mapping, killed-ad graveyard, campaign calendar patterns for Indian IVF marketing.

TL;DR

Seven-step methodology for tearing down competitor IVF Meta ads using public sources only. Offer stack mapping, killed-ad graveyard, campaign calendar patterns for Indian IVF marketing.

IVF is the most opaque healthcare category to run Meta ads inside. The market is emotional, ARSI regulations restrict what claims are legal, patient acquisition cost is high (typically ₹12,000 to ₹28,000 per qualified lead across metro India in 2026), and no clinic wants to publish spend or CPQL data that competitors could use against them. Which means most IVF clinics fly blind — running Meta ads without any structured view of what the clinic across the road is testing this week.

This walk-through is written for an IVF clinic marketing lead or the growth strategist at an agency serving IVF accounts. It is a specific step-by-step for reverse-engineering a competitor clinic's Meta ad strategy using public sources only. Prism Spy automates most of the flow, but every step below can be run manually with Ad Library and a spreadsheet if you have the analyst hours. The methodology matters more than the tool.

Step 1: Pick the right competitor set (not just the obvious ones)

<a href=Meta Catalyst IQ Audience Size analysis showing the fatigue and saturation curves for each audience segment in a Meta Ads account" width="1200" height="675" loading="lazy" decoding="async" style="width:100%;height:auto;display:block;">
Meta Catalyst IQ · Audience SizeAudience fatigue + saturation curves per segment. When to broaden, when to duplicate, when to kill — with the numbers to defend the call.

The instinct is to pick the top three clinics in your city. That is usually the wrong list. The right competitor set contains three groups: your two most direct city-and-tier peers (the clinics genuinely fighting for the same audience with similar pricing), one or two clinics from a Tier-1 metro doing something innovative that will migrate to your market inside 12 months, and the national chains running IVF in your city (Cloudnine, Nova, Indira, Bloom, Milann, Cocoon, Motherhood — depending on presence). That gives you a competitor set of five to seven clinics that captures market direction, not just market rear-view.

For each clinic, note the parent Facebook Page name. This is not always identical to the consumer brand — a chain like Nova IVF often runs ads under both the group Page and location-specific Pages. Prism Spy handles the parent-child mapping; if you are working manually, note both Page names.

Step 2: Inventory their active ad stock

Open Meta Ad Library for each competitor Page. Filter by country India, category "All ads", and status "Active". Count the total. Then bucket them by three attributes:

  • Format: Static image, single video, carousel, collection. Note counts of each. A clinic that is 70 percent video-heavy is running a different creative strategy from one that is 60 percent static.
  • Placement mix: Facebook feed only, Instagram feed only, Stories, Reels, or cross-platform. Check the "Platforms" section on each ad card. Reels-heavy ads suggest they are chasing younger patients (28 to 35); Stories-heavy suggests reach maximisation.
  • CTA destination: WhatsApp Click-to-Chat, landing page URL, phone number, or Messenger. IVF specifically leans WhatsApp — a competitor sending 80 percent to WhatsApp is prioritising consultation booking speed; a competitor sending 60 percent to landing pages is prioritising retargeting pool build-up.

Step 3: Map the offer stack

Prism Spy Offers Intelligence showing tracked offers, value tier distribution, discount intensity by brand, and offer mix by service across IVF and other healthcare specialties
Offers Intelligence — IVF clinic offer stacks catalogued by value tier, discount intensity, and service framing. This is the fastest way to map competitor pricing strategy without buying market research.

Every IVF competitor runs an offer stack even if they do not call it that. Read every active ad copy and log the offers on a scale of intensity. Level 1 offers are informational ("Free 30-minute consultation with fertility specialist"). Level 2 offers add a monetary sweetener ("Free consultation + free AMH test worth ₹1,800"). Level 3 offers add a package structure ("₹1,49,000 IVF package, all inclusive, no hidden costs — down from ₹1,89,000"). Level 4 offers are aggressive ("IVF at ₹99,000 for the first 25 patients this quarter, EMI available at ₹8,250 per month").

The offer intensity distribution across your competitor set tells you where the market is priced. If four of your six competitors are running Level 3 or Level 4 offers, the market has moved past Level 1 consultation-only messaging and you are almost certainly under-pricing your ad creative if you are still there. Prism Spy's Offers Intelligence view runs this catalogue daily across the IVF cluster.

Step 4: Identify the proven-converter creatives

Inside the competitor's active ad list, sort by first-seen date. Every ad that has been running 60 days or more is a proven converter — the clinic's media buyer has been watching CPQL every week and choosing to keep spending. Prism Spy explicitly ranks by run length in the Comparative Insights view; manually, you sort the Ad Library listing by "Active since" and note the top five to eight per competitor.

These proven converters are the creatives to teardown in depth. Screenshot them. For each, capture the hook (first three seconds of video, primary text pre-fold), the visual (doctor, patient, procedure, clinic environment, or animation), the proof format (before-after, testimonial, credential visible, or none), the offer stack level (from Step 3), and the CTA. This gives you a creative library of 20 to 30 proven-converter IVF ads across the competitor set — the corpus you brief your creative team from.

Step 5: Track the killed-ad graveyard

Meta Ad Library structurally does not show ads that stopped running. If you are doing this manually, you have to build the graveyard yourself — snapshot the active ad list weekly and log every ad that disappears. This is where 80 percent of manual IVF competitor tracking falls apart, because the discipline is week-in-week-out and boring. Prism Spy automates the graveyard: every ad ever seen on the tracked competitor Page is logged with first-seen and last-seen dates, and the killed-ad view is filterable by run length.

Two graveyard patterns matter most for IVF specifically. Ads killed inside 14 days indicate a hook that did not convert in the IVF audience — pattern-match across competitors and you will see the same failing hook categories repeatedly (generic fertility awareness content, overly clinical explainer videos with no emotional anchor, ads that try to sell IVF as a lifestyle upgrade rather than a medical intervention). Ads killed after 90+ days indicate a proven ad that finally hit market fatigue — the copy and offer had a good run but decayed. Pattern-match on the graveyard and you can predict which of your competitor's currently-active ads are approaching decay.

Step 6: Reverse-engineer the campaign calendar

Group each competitor's ad launches by month over the past 12 months (Prism Spy's Activity Feed gives you this in the filter view; manually, it is a spreadsheet exercise from screenshots). Look for concentration patterns. IVF clinics in India tend to run three specific launch cycles: post-Diwali (November) when disposable income conversations happen at home, pre-financial-year-end (March) when household health spending is being planned, and September-October targeting World IVF Day / awareness month messaging. A competitor's calendar tells you when they scale spend and when they retreat.

If your competitor set as a whole shows an anomaly — for example, three of six competitors doubled their launched-ad count in a two-week window in June — that is a strategic signal. Someone in the market made a move (new fertility specialist joined a chain, new government scheme announcement, new treatment protocol approval) that the others reacted to. Investigate the trigger.

Step 7: Translate to your own IVF marketing decisions

The whole exercise is worthless if it stops at analysis. Translate the six-step reverse engineering into three concrete decisions per quarter. First, an offer decision: does your current offer stack sit at the market's current level, above it, or below it? If it is below the market's level, either close the gap or defend the position with credential-heavy positioning. Second, a creative decision: which two competitor hooks that are proven converters should inspire (not copy) your next creative brief? Third, a spend decision: does your current media spend put you in the top three of estimated share-of-voice in your city, or in the middle of the pack? Adjust budget accordingly.

For agencies running full-service IVF growth, this reverse-engineering flow is one input into the wider engagement — the same intelligence that feeds Prism Spy also feeds Meta Catalyst IQ's creative planning and the broader healthcare social media agency quarterly roadmap. IVF specifically benefits from tight integration because the customer journey (30 to 90 days research, high emotional weight, offer sensitivity) rewards fast competitive response.
